Job description

Job Summary: The metal shop machine operator and fabricator utilizes several different industrial machines to fabricate various parts. This person may use several different machines throughout the day. The metal shop supports several other departments, including tube fabrication, wall fabrication, furniture fabrication, and the assembly line.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures
  • Follows all pre-established installation and quality methods, procedures and guidelines to ensure consistency of work
  • Reads order-specific job travelers and/or engineered drawings to ensure each order is produced to specifications
  • Uses various industrial machines, such as shear, press, roller, etc. to fabricate metal parts
  • Completes all job duties within given time constraints
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Cross-trains between several different jobs
  • Cleans and maintains work area
  • Pursues continuous improvement to improve efficiency of job duties and work flow

Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Needs good visual judgment to notice errors and/or defects
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, multifunctional team oriented work environment
  • Ability to work variable hours with short notice (up to 50+ hrs. per week)

Physical Requirements and Environment
  • Must be physically capable of safely lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. without assistance, some items are large and/or awkward and up to 200 lbs. and would require a two-person lift
  • Involves standing, bending, lifting, twisting, and climbing ladders for long periods as required
  • Requires repetitive movement
  • Includes exposure to noise levels that are distracting and/or uncomfortable
  • Requires wearing personal protective equipment
