Job description

Job Title: Pastry Sous Chef

We are seeking a creative and skilled Pastry Chef to prepare high-quality pastries, cakes, desserts, and baked goods for our café. The pastry chef will work under our executive pastry chef and follow all instructions. The ideal candidate will have a passion for baking, strong attention to detail, and the ability to maintain consistent quality while working in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and bake a variety of pastries, cakes, tarts, cookies, muffins, croissants, breads, and desserts.
  • Decorate and present baked products to meet the café's quality and presentation standards.
  • Develop new recipes and seasonal menu items.
  • Ensure all baked goods are fresh, consistent, and produced on schedule.
  • Monitor inventory levels and order baking ingredients and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic pastry kitchen in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Operate and maintain bakery equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Minimize food waste through proper production planning and storage.
  • Collaborate with the café manager and kitchen team to meet daily production needs.
  • Train and supervise junior pastry staff or assistants when required.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Pastry Chef, Baker, or similar role.
  • Knowledge of pastry techniques, baking methods, and dessert preparation.
  • Creativity and attention to detail in product presentation.
  • Understanding of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Culinary or pastry certification is an advantage.
Skills
  • Excellent baking and decorating skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
