Job description

Job Title: Regional Lead, Building Automation & Controls Engineering
Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned, hands-on Regional Lead for Building Automation & Controls Engineering to oversee a high-performing team of Controls Systems Engineers and Designers. In this role, you will be the regional authority for application engineering, ensuring that complex HVAC control strategies are delivered with maximum cost-efficiency, technical precision, and customer satisfaction.
You will manage the entire engineering lifecycle-from pre-bid project estimating and resource planning to final network-level commissioning. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who balances high-level project management (resource allocation, budget oversight, and timeline forecasting) with deep technical mastery in hardware/software design. You will be the architect of our regional engineering standards, driving the adoption of proven design templates and pushing innovation in building technology.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Operations & Resource Leadership
• Team Supervision: Mentor, hire, and manage a multi-disciplinary team of controls engineers and designers. Develop performance plans, conduct rigorous reviews, and foster career development for all direct reports.
• Workload Orchestration: Prioritize and coordinate the team's workload, assigning resources across diverse projects (including coordination with remote/offshore engineering groups and specialized sector teams).
• Process Governance: Implement and monitor the regional engineering standards, ensuring all deliverables strictly adhere to the company's internal engineering design playbooks, style guides, and documentation standards.
• Cost & Financial Oversight: Develop engineering cost estimates during project pre-sales; evaluate team success and project profitability through financial management reports and delivery re-estimates.
Technical Execution & Strategy
• Application Expertise: Serve as the regional subject matter expert on application engineering. Troubleshoot advanced technical issues, provide implementation guidance, and perform complex network commissioning as needed.
• Strategic Design: Lead the team in selecting the most cost-effective controllers and end-devices to satisfy project specifications while minimizing installation overhead.
• Process Innovation: Actively scout for new building automation techniques. Implement improvements in tools, design workflows, and operational techniques to increase productivity and maintain a leading-edge technology stance.
• Project Integration: Partner directly with Project Owners and Installation Managers to ensure engineering deliverables arrive precisely on time, allowing for seamless construction and startup.
Client & Stakeholder Management
• Relationship Building: Establish and maintain high-trust relationships with consulting engineers, architects, and project stakeholders. Leverage these connections to streamline project development and execution.
• Sales Support: Attend pre-bid meetings to advise estimating teams on major projects. Ensure that all technical requirements are captured correctly during the release-to-engineering phase.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related).
• Professional Experience:
oMinimum of eight (8) years of direct experience in building automation/HVAC application engineering.
oMinimum of five (5) years of progressive responsibility and supervision within the construction or engineering industries.
• Technical Expert: Recognized expert in core engineering competencies, including hardware engineering, software development, and network-level commissioning.
• Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of construction accounting, job cost management, and project profitability metrics.
• Communication: Exceptional oral and written skills; proven ability to present complex technical material to both internal executive teams and external clients.
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced Credentials: A Master's degree in Engineering or an active Professional Engineer (PE) registration is highly desired.
• Demonstrated history of delivering consistency across multi-site strategic accounts or complex facility environments.
