In the role of Senior Environmental Planner, we'll count on you to:
  • Direct environmental review permit preparation and acquisition on projects, including identification permitting triggers, acquisition strategy, permitting risks, etc.
  • Coordinate closely with clients, technical project staff, and agency reviewers from project initiation to project completion.
  • Contribute as an author and/or strategic advisor on environmental planning documents such as SEPA/NEPA Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and SEPA Checklists.
  • Work independently as well as direct, mentor, and train mid- and junior-level staff.
  • Provide quality assurance / quality control (QA/QC) review of environmental review permitting documents prepared by others.
  • Prepare scope and fee estimates, direct staff during project execution, and monitor scope, schedule, and budget for tasks as environmental permitting task lead.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies on behalf of clients to achieve regulatory compliance for projects.

Project activities or permitting regimes may include:
  • Local land use permits, including Shoreline Permits, Conditional Use Permits, Variances, Special Use Permits, etc.
  • Local development permits, including Building Permits, Clear & Grade Permits,Street use/ROW permits, etc.
  • Clean Water Act/Rivers and Harbors Act Permitting
  • WDFW Hydraulic Project Approvals
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • AICP OR NAEP CEP certification desired.
  • Leadership skills and ability to manage in a team environment.
  • Public speaking and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of federal, state, and local permitting in Washington state
  • Experience successfully permitting complex site development and linear projects (e.g., transmission lines, pipelines, etc.)

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or closely related field
  • A minimum of 10 years technical and/or field experience in complex environmental planning projects
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities
  • Technical and/or field experience dealing with environmental impact issues, associated permit processes and documentation preparation/review
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
