While both roles involve data analysis, the Executive Mis Data Analyst focuses on interpreting business data to inform decisions within organizations, often with a focus on MIS tools and reporting. Data Scientists typically handle complex data modeling, machine learning, and predictive analytics, often requiring advanced statistical skills. The roles overlap in data handling but differ in scope and technical depth.

Is AI replacing data analysts?

AI is transforming the role of data analysts by automating routine tasks such as data cleaning and basic analysis, allowing analysts to focus on more complex insights and strategic decision-making. While AI tools can enhance efficiency, skilled data analysts are still essential for interpreting results, developing models, and providing context-specific recommendations. The demand for analytical skills, critical thinking, and expertise in tools like SQL and Python remains strong in the industry.

Which is better, MIS executive or data analyst?

An MIS executive typically oversees management information systems, focusing on reporting, system implementation, and operational efficiency, often requiring skills in database management and software tools. A data analyst primarily analyzes data to generate insights, using statistical techniques and tools like Excel, SQL, or Python. The better role depends on your skills and career goals, with MIS roles emphasizing systems management and data analyst roles emphasizing data interpretation.

What is the average salary for MIS analysts?

The average salary for MIS (Management Information Systems) analysts typically ranges from $60,000 to $85,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Professionals with specialized skills in data analysis, database management, and familiarity with tools like SQL and Excel tend to earn higher salaries.

Can a MIS executive become a data analyst?

Yes, an MIS executive can transition to a data analyst role by developing skills in data analysis tools like Excel, SQL, and statistical software, as well as gaining knowledge of data visualization and programming languages such as Python or R. Their experience with information systems and reporting can provide a strong foundation for data analysis tasks.

Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented MIS Product Configurator and Data Analyst to serve as the lead architect of our sales and production logic. As we transition from legacy systems to a modern integrated stack (SAP Business One, CIS Configurator, LYNQ MES, and WiSys WMS from AS/400 Friedman), this role is essential to ensuring that complex entry door configurations are accurately translated into system logic.

The successful candidate will manage two deeply integrated layers: the Logic Layer (the rules) and the Execution Layer (Master Data), ensuring a seamless flow from the initial sales quote to shop-floor completion.

Key Responsibilities

1.         New Product Configuration & Model Development

Directly translate manufacturing requirements and sales/pricing rules into technical system logic within the CIS Configurator for a diverse catalog of SKUs:

  • Complex Model Building: Develop and maintain configuration models for various product lines and new product introductions.
  • Dimensional & Handing Logic: Create and maintain rules for standard vs. custom specifications and automated calculations.
  • Component Compatibility: Build dependency rules for glass inserts, hardware mapping, and hole alignments based on door thickness.
  • Pricing & Margin Rules: Program "If/Then" logic for material adders, finish types (smooth vs. woodgrain), and hardware upgrades, integrating customer-specific pricing tiers from SAP B1.
  • System Validation: Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for configuration modules to ensure "Order-to-Cash" integrity and error-free ordering.

2.         Master Data & Execution Integrity

Maintain the "Single Source of Truth" within SAP Business One to support downstream production and procurement:

  • Item Master Management: Oversee Raw Materials (ingredients), Semi-Finished Goods (Work-in-Progress), and Configured Finished Goods, ensuring consistent Units of Measure (UoM) across departments and systems (CIS, SAP Business One and LYNQ).
  • Configurable BOMs: Build and maintain multi-level Bills of Materials (BOM’s), utilizing “Phantom BOMs” for common assemblies to streamline processing.
  • Routing & Work Centers: Define precise operation sequences (CNC, Glass Insertion, Painting) and maintain standard setup/run times. The Analyst will own the detailed scheduling rules and constraints required to drive accurate LYNQ APS scheduling and delivery dates.
  • MRP Readiness: Ensure that BOM structures and lead times are accurately maintained to support automated Material Requirements Planning (MRP) runs and procurement signals.
  • WMS Integration: Verify that configuration outputs correctly trigger WiSys WMS bin logic and picking instructions.

3. Analytical Insights & Optimization

  • Legacy Knowledge Extraction: Actively collaborate with internal legacy experts to extract and document "tribal knowledge" from the AS/400 Friedman system, translating manual workarounds into standardized SAP B1/CIS logic.
  • Root-Cause Analysis: Investigate and resolve data gaps, routing discrepancies, or order errors originating from system configurations.
  • SQL Data Modeling: Apply proficiency in SQL for advanced data modeling, complex querying, and technical troubleshooting across integrated platforms.
  • Margin Validation & Audit: Utilize Excel to perform margin validation and audit the accuracy of system-generated schedules against actual plant performance.
  • System Integration: Monitor and support EDI, API-based integrations, or middleware connecting the ERP (SAP B1) and MES (LYNQ) systems.
  • SOP Development: Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for configuration rules to ensure standardized processes across all product lines

3.         Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years in manufacturing systems with a concentrated focus on product structures, including multi-level Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Routings.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong experience with the CIS Configurator (or similar rules-based CPQ software) and SAP Business One is highly preferred.
  • Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of discrete manufacturing logic and the functional impact of configuration on production scheduling (APS), material planning (MRP), and shop-floor execution (MES).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL for data modeling and troubleshooting.
    • Advanced Excel skills for auditing system schedules and performing margin analysis.
    • Experience with EDI, API-based integrations, or middleware connecting ERP and MES systems is preferred.
  • Communication: Ability to act as a functional link with effective communication skills to bridge HQ Sales, Engineering, and Shop-Floor operations.

Critical Success Factors

  • Precision: Because errors in the "Logic Layer" propagate instantly to the shop floor and procurement, a "zero-error" mindset regarding data entry is required.
  • Cross-Functional Bridge: The candidate must be able to communicate effectively across: Sales (pricing/options), Engineering (BOMs/specs), and Operations (scheduling/picking).
  • Systemic Ownership: The ability to see how a single checkbox in the CIS Configurator impacts the financial margin in SAP B1 and the physical pick-path in the Ohio warehouse.
