SUMMARY

Reporting to the TMC Health Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Executive Officer of Tucson Medical Center is a key member of the TMC Health executive leadership team. This role is broadly accountable for the overall success of Tucson Medical Center. The CEO provides strategic leadership by establishing and executing short- and long-term goals, strategies, and achieves desired outcomes; ensuring compliance and accreditation; and guides Tucson Medical Center aligning with TMC Health’s mission, vision, and values. The CEO leads and develops highly coordinated actions to achieve and sustain top-decile quality andpatient experience, and well-executed patient care delivery, superior clinical outcomes, and excellent patient access and navigation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Supports and interfaces with the Tucson Medical Center Board of Directors, informing and advising Directors on current health care trends, issues, and activities to support effective policy making.
  • Oversees Tucson Medical Center’s Executive Team and all operations through direct reports.
  • Responsible for quality, safety, workforce, and patient experience outcomes. Develops, monitors, and ensures achievement of short- and long-range goals.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements governing health care delivery at Tucson Medical Center.
  • Participates in external community programs and activities to build goodwill and strengthen community understanding of Tucson Medical Center and its services.
  • Fosters leadership development and succession planning.
  • Oversee the development and management of the Tucson Medical Center budget, ensuring the organization operates within approved budget parameters.
  • Oversees facility improvement planning for Tucson Medical Center within the parameters of strategic plans and approved budget funding.
  • Establishes market positioning by developing and promoting strategies that strengthen Tucson Medical Center’s role as a premier regional medical center.
  • Collaborates with TMC Health leaders, service line leaders, and medical staff to advance quality and support the development of TMC Health initiatives.
  • Maintains appropriate alignment with key TMC Health system-wide initiatives and collaborates with colleagues to support the growth of TMC Health in the region.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Master’s degree preferably an MHA or MBA.

EXPERIENCE: Ten (10) years of executive management operations experience in a hospital setting.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: None required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Extensive knowledge of hospital management and regulations governing hospital practices.
  • Skill in executing strategy both financial and operational to ensure optimal effectiveness.
  • Uses evidence-based practice, data-driven evidence, and accountability for continuous improvement to advance decision making and improve patient outcomes.
  • Understands operations and workflows, including how operational processes affect performance and outcomes.
  • Working knowledge and thorough understanding of health care laws, licensing and accreditation requirements, and clinical standards of practice with the ability to interpret and implement applicable requirements to ensure operational compliance.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and regulatory changes, and how they impact operations.
  • Ability to assess risk and ensure support as required.
  • Demonstrates business acumen, including the ability to establish goals and standards, meet short- and long-term objectives, and make sound business decisions.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership presence with the ability to respond to questions with logic, clarity, calmness, and authority; and the ability to engage others.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with various methods of care delivery and quality improvement concepts.
  • Demonstrates progressive management experience in providing administrative direction to innovative health care programs. Strong written, verbal, and human resource management skills are essential.
  • Demonstrates financial acumen and ability to prepare and review budgets and financial statements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and change management skills, as demonstrated by the ability to motivate and work effectively with physician and administrative partners and teams across all disciplines.
  • Demonstrated success in defining and realizing the highest standards of patient care, using measurement and data-driven improvement efforts, technology, and innovation to strategically move the system of care toward optimization of patient outcomes.
  • Monitors compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with employees, leaders, physicians, and stakeholders about the vision, mission, values, and objectives of TMC Health and how they relate to each team member’s role.
  • Discerns and communicate appropriate information to peers and senior leaders and brings forward recommendations for positive change across Tucson Medical Center.
