Job description

We are hiring a Controller for a well-established construction company located in West Milwaukee County. The company has built a reputation for technical excellence, customer service, and long-term stability while continuing to grow through strategic investment in both its commercial construction and residential service businesses.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and working closely with the Vice President of Residential Operations, the Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. This individual will supervise the Accounts Payable/Staff Accountant while driving process improvements and strengthening financial reporting capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all accounting operations for the residential services division.
  • Supervise and mentor the Accounts Payable/Staff Accountant.
  • Manage the monthly close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Develop annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and profitability across service operations.
  • Improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and internal controls.
  • Support cash management and day-to-day financial administration.
  • Partner with operations leadership to improve financial visibility and business performance.
  • Collaborate with shared corporate departments including Human Resources, Marketing, and Safety.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Accountant experience.
  • Experience leading month-end close and financial statement preparation.
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
