SNI Companies is working with a large Radiology Company who is looking for Medical Records Specialist in their East Windsor, NJ office. The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate, complete, and confidential patient health records in accordance with organizational policies, HIPAA requirements, and applicable healthcare regulations. This role is 100% on-site.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, update, scan, index, and organize patient records in paper and electronic health record systems.
- Review medical records for accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation.
- Enter patient demographics, medical history, insurance information, and other relevant data into EHR systems.
- Retrieve and prepare records for patient care, audits, quality reviews, billing, legal requests, and authorized release of information.
- Process requests for medical records in compliance with HIPAA, company policy, and state and federal regulations.
- Protect patient confidentiality and ensure secure handling, storage, transmission, and disposal of health information.
- Identify documentation discrepancies and follow up with clinical or administrative staff to resolve missing or unclear information.
- Support admissions, discharge paperwork, chart preparation, filing, correspondence logs, and general clerical duties as needed.
- Assist with internal audits, compliance reviews, and record retention activities.
- Provide professional customer service to patients, providers, insurance companies, legal representatives, and internal departments.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in medical records, healthcare administration, patient registration, billing, or a related healthcare support role preferred.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA, patient confidentiality, and healthcare documentation standards.
- Experience using electronic health record systems, scanning/indexing software, or medical office systems preferred.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology preferred.
- Strong computer, data entry, filing, and record-management skills.
Hours are Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 5pm
Pay: $20-$21 an hour
