Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance for RSL facilities, vehicles, equipment, grounds, furnishings, and other organizational assets. The position ensures that facilities remain safe, functional, clean, and well-maintained while providing timely response to maintenance needs and supporting the daily operations of RSL.

The Maintenance Technician works closely with residential, day program, administrative, and operations staff; coordinates with outside vendors when necessary; maintains accurate maintenance records; and participates in an on-call rotation.


Essential Functions

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs at RSL group homes, offices, day program facilities, and other organizational properties.
  • Inspect and maintain appliances, furnishings, fixtures, equipment, and other facility assets.
  • Monitor facility conditions and arrange or coordinate repairs when work cannot be completed internally.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance needs and make self available to assist during organizational emergencies.
  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner and ensure work meets established standards.
  • Follow up on outstanding maintenance requests and communicate significant issues to appropriate supervisors.
  • Assist with routine inspections and maintenance of RSL vehicles.
  • Schedule vehicle inspections, repairs, and routine maintenance with vendors as assigned.
  • Assist with maintaining the grounds at assigned facilities, including basic landscaping, exterior maintenance, and seasonal needs.
  • Assist with snow and severe-weather response.
  • Participate in the maintenance/operations on-call rotation.
  • Maintain accurate and current maintenance files, work orders, inspection records,
  • Perform computer data entry and use organizational systems to document maintenance activities.
  • Type, organize, and file maintenance records and other departmental documentation.
  • Monitor inventory of maintenance supplies and notify appropriate personnel when supplies need to be replenished.
  • Assist with maintaining and distributing office and facility supplies and supporting the supply requisition system.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and service providers as assigned.
  • Identify potential safety, maintenance, or facility concerns and report them promptly.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The Maintenance Technician is expected to:

  • Respond promptly and professionally to maintenance requests.
  • Demonstrate good judgment when determining whether a repair can be completed internally or requires an outside vendor.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding individuals served, employees, facilities, and organizational information.
  • Follow all RSL policies and procedures, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful working relationship with individuals served, families, staff, vendors, and community partners.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and complete assigned tasks within established timelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Be dependable and available to respond to urgent maintenance needs when scheduled or assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with at least three years of driving history.
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).
  • Successful completion of required criminal background checks.
  • Ability to safely operate basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to enter and maintain information electronically.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to perform routine maintenance activities, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, carrying, climbing stairs or ladders, and operating hand and power tools. The employee must be able to safely perform the physical requirements associated with maintaining residential, office, and program facilities.


Work Schedule and Availability

The Maintenance Technician may be required to work outside of normal business hours in response to emergencies, severe weather, facility issues, or other operational needs. The position participates in an established on-call rotation with other maintenance and operations personnel.
