Job description

Title: Chief Medical Director  

Reports to:  Executive Director/Governing Board 

Department: Mental Health  

Location: Brooklyn, NY  

Classification: Part time (Contract/Employee) 

Hours: 5 –10 hrs weekly  

Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) envisions a just society that recognizes the purpose and potential of every child impacted by mass incarceration. Our mission is to support and advocate for children of incarcerated parents while speaking out against the root causes that affect the communities we serve—including systemic racism, poverty, and bias within our nation’s criminal justice system. 

CPNYC has developed an innovative model—the only one of its kind in New York City—that co-locates a licensed therapist at two after-school sites in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx to provide on-site mental health support. In addition, CPNYC offers an array of youth development programs and services tailored to each child’s strengths and challenges, creating an uplifting environment that builds resilience. 

Position Overview: CPNYC seeks a Medical Director to provide clinical leadership and medical oversight for the organization’s health services under Article 29 regulations. The Medical Director ensures services meet New York State Department of Health requirements, professional standards of care, and CPNYC policies.

In collaboration with the Executive Director and Vice President of Mental Health, the Medical Director works with an interdisciplinary team to support high-quality, ethical, and compliant care and to guide the development and integration of clinical services.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Oversight

  • Develop,reviewandmaintainmedical policies and procedure

  • Ensure compliance with NYS Department of Health regulations

  • Oversee clinical documentation standards and quality ofcare

  • Review and approve clinical protocols

Clinical Governance

  • Provide consultation to clinical staff on medical and behavioral health matters

  • Support interdisciplinary care planning as needed

  • Ensure safe coordination between medical and behavioral health services

Quality Assurance

  • Provide consultation to clinical staff on medical and behavioral health matters

  • Support interdisciplinary care planning as needed

  • Ensure safe coordination between medical and behavioral health services

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to state and federal healthcare regulations

  • Supports audits, site visits, and regulatory inspections

  • Maintainappropriate clinicalsupervision and oversightstructure

Program Development

  • Advise on development and expansion of clinical services

  • Support implementation of evidence -based models of care

Time Commitment

Typical responsibilities include

  • Monthly clinical oversight meetings

  • Chart and documentation review

  • Policy review and approval

  • Participation in quality assurance activities

  • Availability forconsultation

Required Knowledge,Skilland Experience

  • Licensed physician (MD or DO) in good standing in New York State

  • Current NYS registration to practice medicine

  • Experience in behavioral health, primary care, or integrated care settings

Acceptable Physician Specialties

Physicians with trainingappropriate foroutpatient clinical oversight may include:

  • Psychiatry

  • Family Medicine

  • Internal Medicine

  • Preventative Medicine

  • Pediatrics (for youthservingprograms)

  • Medicine - Psychiatry (dual board)

  • Addiction Medicine

  • Public Health - focusedPhysicians

A psychiatrist is notrequiredunless psychiatric diagnosis or medication isrequired

Non-EligibilityforMedical Role as per regulatory requirements:

  • Psychologists (PhD/PsyD)

  • NursePractitioners(including PMHNP)

  • PhysicianAssistants

  • Dentists

  • Social Workers

  • LicensedMentalHealth Counselors

These professionals may serve in other clinical leadership roles

COMPENSATION:

Commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.Thecompensation range is between $250 -$300 perdependent on scope of responsibilities and programscope.CPNYC provides an excellent benefits package including health, dental, vision, life insurance, 403B Plan, and the opportunity to make an impact in the lives of marginalized Black and Brown children and youth in New York City.
