Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer

Occupational Summary

This position will be under the supervision of the Executive Director of Duke Athletic Medicine and is a 12-month position. The Assistant Athletics Trainer will manage the care of the student-athletes of Duke University participating in NCAA Division I sports and report to the Executive Director of Athletic Medicine. Main sport focus will be with Rowing. Additional sport/duties will be determined by the Executive Director of Athletic Medicine.

Essential Functions

Provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses.

Coordinate medical care for assigned student-athletes in collaboration with team physicians and the sports medicine team.

Communicate effectively with physicians, coaches, student-athletes, parents/guardians, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.

Educate and counsel student-athletes regarding injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and overall health and wellness.

Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in accordance with departmental, institutional, NCAA, and legal standards.

Participate in event and practice coverage as assigned.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Athletic Medicine.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE-accredited program.

Board of Certification (BOC) certification and certification maintained in good standing.

Eligible for North Carolina athletic trainer licensure or currently licensed in North Carolina prior to employment.

Minimum of three years of experience providing athletic training services to NCAA student-athletes.

o Athletic training experience with Rowing preferred.

Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Understanding of contemporary sports medicine principles, including rehabilitation, return-to-play decision-making, and sports science technologies.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Work requires knowledge of the general principles of preventive physical care for athletes, first aid treatment and referral, and post injury rehabilitation normally acquired through a bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine or other related Athletic Trainer program. National Athletic Trainers Association certification is required.

Experience

Work requires one year experience participating in various administrative, educational or medical support services such as coordinating arrangements for appointments and activities, participating in physical training tasks and instructions, providing first aid treatment or other related functions in order to acquire skills necessary to participate in a comprehensive sports medical program for intercollegiate athletes. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $45,661.00 to USD $73,140.00.
