Job description

With 92 years of history, Harkins Theatres is seeking a Design and Development Specialist to join an award-winning design team that creates amazing entertainment spaces. The D &D Specialist researches materials, finishes, and furniture to ensure Harkins receives maximum value within established budgets, while delivering projects that deliver the Ultimate Entertainment Experience. What You Will Be Doing:  

  • Coordinates design requirements for various project types with all internal and external partners.
  • Creates seating and/or building layout plans to coordinate with existing conditions and current standards for various remodels and new projects.
  • Creates computer-generated imagery (CGI) visualizations and/or 3D models to convey concept and feasibility in design.
  • Creates schematic site plans and elevations.
  • Creates design packages for vendor proposals.
  • Creates and maintains drawing standards (i.e. AutoCAD blocks and Revit Families).
  • Reviews RFI’s and provides cost-effective solutions to leadership.
  • Reviews G.C. and vendor submittals.
  • Reviews drawing package submittals.
  • Coordinates requirements for design concept meetings, including development of design inspiration package.
  • Researches materials and trends to support the design vision, while maintaining budget and presents findings for approval.
  • Effectively communicates and coordinates information and delivers creative work within agreed timelines.
  • Regular attendance and physical presence at the work site.
  • Requires typing on a computer, reaching, stretching, twisting, bending, carrying light items, interacting with others, speaking on the telephone, problem solving, and cognitive skills.

What We Are Looking For: 

  • Bachelor's degree in design or architecture and minimum 5 years of design experience or equivalent technical training/certification and 5+ years related experience.  
  • Demonstrate excellent artistic and technical knowledge and have a keen eye for detail, composition, and design.
  • Strong hand sketch ability preferred.
  • Microsoft Project, Excel (advanced skills), Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet research. 
  • AutoCAD, Photoshop, Revit, Enscape, Bluebeam and Illustrator proficiency a must. 
  • SketchUp, and/or advanced CGI visualization skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of architecture and interior design principles.
  • Knowledge of drafting standards.
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret legal documents, building codes, design documents, business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions percentage, area, circumference and volume.
  • Able to read and interpret architectural and MEP drawings/plans.
  • Capable of remaining calm and using good judgment in elevating situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. 
  • Organized with strong attention to detail and ability to exercise judgment and discretion in maintaining confidential and sensitive information.
  • Able to operate with focus, prioritize and work on various projects and deadlines with frequent interruptions while maintaining flexibility and composure.
  • Able to work independently and/or with a team. Maintains a professional attitude and demeanor. Demonstrates unimpeachable integrity and accountability. Communicates professionally in all circumstances.
