Geospatial Senior Subject Matter Expert

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serve as the senior technical authority and trusted advisor for Geospatial Support programs, initiatives, and enterprise capabilities.
  • Provide strategic guidance and subject matter expertise on geospatial technologies, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geospatial analytics, and location-based data services.
  • Advise program leadership, stakeholders, and technical teams on geospatial strategies, modernization efforts, and technology roadmaps.
  • Lead the assessment, planning, and implementation of geospatial solutions supporting mission and operational objectives.
  • Evaluate existing geospatial systems, applications, and business processes and recommend improvements that enhance operational efficiency and decision-making.
  • Support the integration of geospatial capabilities with enterprise applications, cloud platforms, data repositories, and analytic environments.
  • Provide expertise in geospatial data management, data governance, metadata standards, and data quality assurance practices.
  • Guide the development and implementation of geospatial architecture, technical standards, and best practices.
  • Support the design and deployment of geospatial visualization tools, dashboards, maps, and reporting capabilities.

  • Provide technical oversight for geospatial data collection, processing, analysis, visualization, and dissemination activities.
  • Develop executive briefings, white papers, technical reports, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Mentor technical personnel and provide guidance on geospatial methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Support compliance with organizational, federal, and industry standards applicable to geospatial programs and data management.
  • Facilitate collaboration among federal stakeholders, technical teams, and external partners to advance geospatial capabilities and mission outcomes.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Geospatial Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience supporting IT programs, systems, or technology initiatives, including significant experience in geospatial support environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in geospatial technologies, GIS platforms, spatial analysis, and geospatial data management.
  • Experience supporting enterprise geospatial programs and integrating geospatial solutions with business and operational systems.
  • Knowledge of geospatial data standards, metadata management, and data governance principles.
  • Experience developing geospatial strategies, roadmaps, technical recommendations, and architecture guidance.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based geospatial services and enterprise technology environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills.
  • Experience communicating complex technical concepts to executive leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders across multiple organizational levels.
  • U.S. Citizen and ability to get the clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), or other Federal Government geospatial programs.
  • Hands-on experience with Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or equivalent GIS platforms.
  • Experience supporting geospatial analytics, location intelligence, and spatial data visualization initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) standards and National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud-based geospatial solutions in Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with geospatial databases, spatial ETL tools, and geospatial web services.
  • Experience supporting emergency management, critical infrastructure, cybersecurity, public safety, or mission-support geospatial operations.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), GISP (GIS Professional), Esri Technical Certification, AWS, Azure, or equivalent certifications.
