Scope of Responsibility:

This position corrects any imperfections during the galvanizing process with a file or grinder and finalize the steel product according to customer requirements while working safely and conscientious of quality.

Essential Duties:

  • File or grind excess zinc, ash or drip marks from ends of product that are created by the hot dipping process
  • Deburr and clean threads on steel products
  • Follow proper repair procedures of uncoated areas (how to grind & how to apply paint)
  • Manually stack or move steel products up to 75 lbs or use jib crane/forklift
  • Use zinc-based alloys (hot stick), paints containing zinc dust and sprayed zinc (metallizing) on steel products
  • Tag and place material for identification
  • Count, weigh or measure finished products comparing identifying information against bills of lading or work orders
  • Inspect all lifting equipment prior to use (forklifts, cranes, chains, slings, etc.)
  • Inspect all material after galvanizing to ensure material meets all Sabre safety and quality guidelines and procedures
  • Perform housekeeping activities to keep the work area and equipment clean and organized
  • Additional duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Management

Position Requirements:

  • Ability to understand basic verbal English is required
  • Experience using hand tools, such as a grinder or file, is highly preferred
  • Experience using forklifts and cranes highly preferred
  • Ability to read, write and speak English is highly preferred
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing facility highly preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Regular and timely attendance is required

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, tugging, stooping, bending, twisting, crawling and handling of materials.
  • Position requires manual dexterity, ability to pick/pinch and work with fingers, repetitive motions of wrists/hands/finger, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual.
  • Effectively and safely utilizes ladders, manlifts, forklifts, overhead cranes, etc. Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Must be able to work in an open environment for long shifts (including weekends) exposed to extreme temperatures, standing entire shift
  • Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sources
  • Visual acuity to perform visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes
