RSi is looking to fill an Engineering Technician IV position to support our NASA customer on the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support contract (METTS). The Engineering Technician IV is responsible for developing, reviewing, and modifying engineering designs as well as conducting complex tests and experiments to identify inconsistencies and recommending improvements.

This position may require occasional overtime and may include second or third shift support for 24/7 onsite or on-call support based on customer needs and contract requirements.

Summary of duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop or review designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data, applying conventional engineering practices to develop, prepare, or recommend schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings and parts lists. (Examples of designs include: detailed circuit diagrams; hardware fittings or test equipment involving a variety of mechanisms; conventional piping systems; and building site layouts)
  • Conduct complex tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures, preparing and operating equipment, recording data, measuring and recording problems of significant complexity that sometimes require resolution at a higher level, and analyzes data and prepares test reports
  • Apply methods outlined by others to limited segments of research and development projects, constructing experimental or prototype models to meet engineering requirements; conducts tests or experiments and redesigns as necessary and recording and evaluating data and reports findings
  • Extract and compile a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation
  • Assist in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information
  • Work pertaining to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment
  • Performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents that are not fully applicable, such assignments that are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design problems
  • Receives technical advice from supervisor or engineer

Required Minimum Education/Experience/Certifications:

  • Practical knowledge of science or engineering
  • Highly specialized skills related to test facilities, test stands, laboratories, chambers, equipment obtained through specialized training, โ€œon the jobโ€ work experience, and/or certification(s)
  • The ability to prepare design drawings and assist with the design, evaluation, and/or modification of machinery and equipment.
  • Be able to provide semi-professional technical support for engineers working in such areas as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement.
  • Ability to communicate with peers, supervisors and customers clearly and effectively
  • Ability to work independently or in a team
  • Ability follow written and verbal instructions

Physical Environment/Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Must be able to pass a MSFC physical examination for any required safety-related certifications.
  • All positions supporting the METTS III contract require successful completion of NASA medical screenings at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter. The need for these screenings is determined based on the outcomes of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Job Assessment Questionnaire.


Other: This position is subject to a pre-employment background check. Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government issues credentials and IT access/applicants must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements.
