JOB ROLE : SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT

DURATTION : 6-MONTH CONTRACT WITH POSSIBLE EXTENSION.

IT'S A REMOTE POSITION BUT THEY NEED TO SIT IN EITHER, TULSA, OK/DALLAS, TX/ OR KANSAS CITY, MO.

HEAVY PREFERENCE ON TULSA CANDIDATES.

THEY WILL BE REQUIRED TO COME ONSITE FOR THE FIRST WEEK AS WELL

The Solutions Architect leads architecture activities to guide the development, evolution, and management of a portfolio of solutions within a line of business. The incumbent creates designs for solutions using existing patterns and reference architectures that enhance technical capabilities necessary to execute enterprise strategy and meet corporate objectives. These solutions consist of not only hardware and software, but also the people, processes, and information that together form the end-to-end system. They understand the concepts of business goals and objectives, targeted outcomes, business and technical capabilities, and value-streams that support and inform solutions architecture. They bring to bear leadership, analysis and design skills to ensure that solutions meet business needs. They also work closely with Business Architecture and Enterprise Architecture to align with business strategies and roadmaps, as well as architectural standards and governance. They create deliverables for managing the organization's portfolio of "to be" and "as is" solutions to enable and drive targeted business outcomes and support future business agility. They effectively communicate with IT management, project managers, other architects, development teams, and line of business management to provide transparency and properly manage expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Steward a line of business portfolio of solutions by providing strategic and technical leadership to evolve the architecture over time to solve complex problems and meet both current and future business needs.
  • Shape future solutions through up front assessments and development of a high-level solution vision for a specific business case.
  • Deliver solution designs from existing patterns and reference architectures that enhance existing technical capabilities and are aligned with business and technology strategies, roadmaps, standards, guidelines, and reference architectures. Produce solution blueprints, architecture diagrams, architecture decision records (ADRs), estimates, and technical specifications.
  • Perform hands on development in conjunction with engineering teams to build and evolve solutions. Includes prototypes to prove out concepts or assumptions, basic reference implementations for project reuse, technically demanding components, and resolving complex and impactful issues or defects.
  • Conduct architecture reviews of proposed or existing line of business solutions to assess alignment with architectural principles, business and technology strategies, roadmaps, standards, guidelines and reference architectures, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Perform technology options assessments to identify technology options for a specific business need, including benefits and consequences of each option, a detailed trade-off analysis, and a recommendation for how to proceed.
  • Provide internal consulting for technology-related matters to give access to deep technical expertise, advice, guidance and coaching.
  • Support training and knowledge sharing to enhance architectural capabilities, promote modern ways of working, and foster knowledge sharing through training sessions, workshops, mentoring programs, etc.
  • Build and foster relationships to develop deep trust with Business Architects, Enterprise Architects, assigned lines of business, delivery teams, and shared services (development, quality engineering, infrastructure, security, compliance, etc.) through a routine meeting cadence and collaboration in daily work.
  • Leverage relationships across delivery teams to harvest learnings at the local level and re-distribute broadly throughout the organization.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field and 7+ of technical experience. Minimum of five years of experience in at least two IT solution development disciplines, including application development, middleware development, cloud development, technical or infrastructure architecture, network management, or database management. Minimum of two years building cloud native applications in AWS, Azure, or GCP. Minimum of two years building modern applications using serverless, containerization and orchestration. Minimum of two years developing APIs using various protocols such as REST, gRPC, or GraphQL. Additional experience can be used in lieu of a degree.

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of software engineering fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, programming paradigms and SOLID design principles.
  • Knowledge of software architecture fundamentals including modularity, architectural styles, design patterns and anti-patterns, risk analysis and assessment, trade-off analysis, diagramming and modeling, and governance.
  • Experience in multiple and diverse technologies, platforms and processing environments.
  • Experience in multiple backend development languages such as Java, C#, Python, Go, etc.
  • Experience in multiple architectural styles such as layered, microkernel, service-based, event-driven, etc.
  • Experience in multiple database technologies such as relational, document, key-value, graph, vector, in-memory, etc.
  • Knowledge of frontend web development languages and frameworks.
  • Understanding of strategic and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of existing and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models.
  • Understanding of product management and experience in the full SDLC using modern ways of working such as Agile, Kanban, DevOps, etc.
  • Experience in supporting agile teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impacts, and risks while taking account of technical and architectural debt.
  • Knowledge of formal or informal modeling languages such as UML, ArchiMate, C4, etc.
  • Knowledge of formal or informal architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, AWS Well-Architected Framework, Azure Well-Architecture Framework, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills across all levels from individual contributors to the C suit

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS/CONTACTS

  • Positions, other than supervisor and immediate co-workers, with which incumbent has frequent contact and the reason for contact.
  • Internal – Extensive contact with development leads, project teams, and project stakeholders within IT, including Business Analysts, Project Management, Quality Assurance, Server Administration, and Infrastructure.  Frequent contact with an Enterprise Architect during project planning and periodically throughout the project.  There will also be frequent contact with IT and LOB leadership throughout a project to answer questions and give advice.
  • External – Frequent contact with vendors for emerging technologies and off the shelf vendor products.  Vendor contact will also include problem resolution as appropriate.
  • Supervision of others – Will not directly supervise other’s development tasks, but will provide leadership and direction to a project.  There will also be mentoring and training responsibilities within the development group and with other architects.
