What does an events DJ do?

An Events DJ is a professional who selects, mixes, and plays music at events such as weddings, parties, corporate functions, and other special occasions. They are responsible for creating an enjoyable atmosphere by reading the crowd and adjusting the music selection to match the event's mood. Events DJs often provide their own sound and lighting equipment, take song requests, and may also act as emcees to make announcements or facilitate activities during the event.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an events DJ, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Events DJ, you need a solid understanding of music theory, mixing techniques, and event coordination, often supported by experience or formal training in audio production. Mastery of DJ software (like Serato or Traktor), digital controllers, and sound systems is essential, and certifications in audio engineering can be advantageous. Exceptional crowd-reading ability, adaptability, and strong communication skills help set top DJs apart in engaging and energizing audiences. These skills are crucial for delivering memorable experiences, managing technical demands, and ensuring seamless event flow.

How does an events DJ typically collaborate with event planners and other vendors during an event?

Events DJs often work closely with event planners, coordinators, and other vendors such as lighting technicians and photographers to ensure a seamless experience. Communication before and during the event is essential, as DJs must adapt their setlists to fit the event’s agenda and coordinate timing for key moments like speeches or announcements. Building strong relationships and staying flexible helps ensure that the music enhances the overall atmosphere and that transitions between different parts of the event run smoothly.

Job description

At Wedgewood Weddings, we believe every couple deserves a celebration that feels effortless, joyful, and unforgettable. Our DJs play a huge role in making that happen. From setting the perfect vibe on the dance floor to guiding guests through key moments of the evening, our DJs help create the energy that turns a wedding into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

We’re looking for outgoing, reliable, and engaging individuals to join our growing team as Wedding DJs / MCs. Previous DJ experience is not required — we provide paid training and coaching. What matters most is your personality, professionalism, and ability to connect with people.

If you love music, enjoy being part of celebrations, and want to help couples have the best day of their lives, this could be a great fit.

What You'll Do

As a Wedding DJ with Wedgewood Weddings, you’ll help create seamless and memorable events by:

  • Hosting and MC’ing weddings and private events

  • Playing music that matches each couple’s style and keeps the celebration going

  • Making announcements and guiding guests through the event timeline

  • Collaborating with venue teams and other vendors to ensure events run smoothly

  • Meeting with couples ahead of their event to understand their vision and preferences

  • Delivering warm, professional hospitality to couples and their guests

  • Traveling to venues throughout the region and arriving prepared for event setup

We hire great personalities first. The ideal candidate is:

  • Outgoing, friendly, and confident speaking to groups

  • Reliable and organized

  • A strong communicator who enjoys working with people

  • Comfortable leading a room and creating a fun atmosphere

  • A team player who works well with venue staff and vendors

  • Passionate about hospitality and celebrations

  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply

What We’re Looking For

  • Weekend availability (most weddings take place Friday–Sunday)

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Reliable vehicle with insurance

  • Comfortable speaking on a microphone and engaging with guests

  • Must be able to independently lift 50+ pound audio equipment

Why Choose Us:

  • Paid DJ training — no experience required

  • Flexible part-time hours that are perfect for students and those looking to earn extra cash on nights and weekends. Collaborative culture – thrive in a dynamic environment where teamwork, innovation and client satisfaction are at the heart of everything we do.

  • You’ll love the competitive pay; favorable bonus plan; PTO; paid holidays; sick leave; medical, dental, vision, accident and life insurance; a company funded health reimbursement account; or our 401(k) with company match.

At Wedgewood Weddings, our teams are known for creating welcoming, high-energy celebrations where couples feel completely taken care of. As part of our DJ team, you'll get to be at the center of that experience — helping couples celebrate one of the happiest days of their lives.

If you’re looking for a role that combines music, hospitality, and unforgettable events, we’d love to meet you.

Are you ready to join our team and revolutionize the wedding industry? Come grow with us and make every day a celebration!

The important extras:

  • As is typical in the hospitality industry, this position requires regular availability to work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, as well as shifts of more than 8 hours.

  • Wedgewood Weddings provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
