The Event Staff I - Crowd Manager role at Utah Valley University offers a dynamic opportunity to be at the center of exciting campus and community events while helping create a safe, welcoming, and memorable experience for every guest. As a frontline team member, you will interact with a wide range of individuals, patrons, donors, visiting artists, and university personnel, while building strong customer service and communication skills.

Event Staff gain valuable experience in crowd management, safety awareness, and operational coordination by monitoring guest flow, supporting orderly entry and exit, and responding to event needs in real time. Summary of Responsibilities
  • Guest Services and Patron Assistance: Provide exceptional customer service by greeting patrons, scanning or validating tickets, answering questions, and assisting guests with seating, ADA accommodations, venue amenities, and event information. Help create a welcoming, professional, and service-oriented environment for all guests, donors, visiting artists, artist management, university personnel, and members of the public.
  • Crowd Management and Safety Monitoring: Monitor guest activity and assigned public areas to support a safe, orderly, and secure event environment. Assist with crowd movement, ingress and egress, and security screenings as assigned. Identify and report safety concerns, suspicious activity, prohibited items, congestion, or behavioral issues to supervisors in accordance with venue procedures.
  • Event Operations and Area Readiness: Support event operations before, during, and after events by maintaining assigned posts, helping prepare public areas for guest use, keeping lobbies and seating areas neat and organized, and assisting with opening, event, and closing responsibilities as assigned.
  • Policy Enforcement and Incident Reporting: Assist with communicating and reinforcing venue policies, event rules, and guest expectations professionally. Observe and report guest concerns, policy violations, and routine incidents to supervisors, event security, or other appropriate personnel in accordance with venue procedures.
  • Emergency Procedures and Guest Support: Assist with emergency response actions by remaining alert, following staff direction, helping communicate instructions to guests, and supporting orderly movement during alarms, evacuations, shelter-in-place situations, or other emergency conditions.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Six months of experience in customer service, guest services, event staffing, ushering, or a related public-facing role preferred.
  • Experience working in a sports, entertainment, performing arts, or university event venue.
  • Experience with ticket scanning, guest screening, ADA seating assistance, or front-of-house event operations. CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred.
