Job Title:
String Assistant Paraprofessional - South Holland School District 151
Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Fine Arts Director, who serves as the primary evaluator, the paraprofessional will support and assist the String Director as required with classroom instruction, rehearsals, activities, organization, and student supervision in support of the string music program.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assists the String Director in developing lesson plans and rehearsal strategies for string instruction.
  • Supports students in completing instructional assignments and developing foundational string performance skills.
  • Under the guidance of the String Director, leads small group sectionals or individual instruction and discussions.
  • Assists with tuning instruments, music distribution, and setup of rehearsal spaces.
  • Organizes classroom materials, sheet music, and equipment while monitoring the classroom to minimize distractions and disruptions.
  • Supervises students in and out of the classroom (i.e., transitions, performances, rehearsals, and school activities).
  • Provides support during concerts, performances, and after-school rehearsals as directed by the String Director and/or Fine Arts Director.

Education, Experience and Certification:
  • High School Diploma; Associates degree preferred.
    Successful completion of Work Keys Test.
  • Valid Paraprofessional Licensure from the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Experience working with elementary or middle school-aged children preferred.
    Basic knowledge of string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass) preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, working on a computer, or standing during rehearsals.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times (instruments and equipment).
  • Must be able to move throughout the classroom and adjust one's position (bending, kneeling, or leaning) to assist students with proper technique and posture.

Terms of Employment:
  • At-will employment.
    180 day/10 month position.
  • Annual evaluation conducted by the Fine Arts Director, with input from the String Director and building administration.
  • Salary and increases set by Superintendent.

Working Conditions:
  • In person and on site in a school/classroom and rehearsal environment.
    Close contact with school-age children.
  • After school and evening activities in support of the string program required, as directed by the String Director and/or Fine Arts Director.
