Lead Solar Installer Job Description
Classification/Position Type:
Non-Exempt/Full-Time/Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (40 Hours/Week) with occasional evening and weekend overtime.
Reports To:
Lead Solar Installer
Overview:
Working under the direct supervision of the Operations Director, the Lead Solar Installer will be responsible for the planning, direction and coordination of daily activities pertaining to solar installation and maintenance of an assigned project in accordance with company guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Lead Solar Installer will also be responsible for the oversight and training of solar crews on each project as well as (but not limited to) the following duties:
  • Responsible for accurately mapping out the placement of components based on provided diagrams and ensuring the system is effectively sealed against weather conditions, following safety codes and manufacturer specifications.
  • Ensure all insurance certificates and any relevant workers compensations statutes are in place prior to the commencement of work.
  • Evaluate specifications for plan procedures, start and completion dates, as well as any necessary staffing requirements for each phase of the project.
  • Conduct thorough testing and ground measurement post installation and make any needed adjustments to ensure proper functionality.
  • Interprets specifications and company policies to subordinates and/or contractors and enforces safety regulations.
  • Analyze and resolve job site conflicts including, but not limited to, employee complaints and/or grievances.
  • Collaborate and assist Project Managers with site inspections, permitting, as well as establishing per site budgets.
  • Ensure proper panel positioning and alignment for optimal energy production.
  • Responsible for accurate labeling, installing, and terminating electrical wiring and/or connections.
  • Responsible for maintaining open and effective communication with subordinate supervisory personnel, regarding all activities within each job while ensuring occupational health and safety of all SEL Construction employees, subcontractors, project teams, clients, guests, and assets in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, departmental and company policies, as well as industry standards and practices.
  • Maintain and promote an organized job site and/or working environment.
  • Maintain current and valid certifications as required by SEL Construction and deemed necessary by safety, local, state, and federal laws.
Core Competencies and Qualifications:
  • 1 or more years experience as a COMMERCIAL Solar Crew Lead REQUIRED
  • 5 total years working in the COMMERCIAL Solar Industry REQUIRED
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in the use of basic hand and power tools
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively work in a team environment.
  • The ability to demonstrate exemplary work ethics.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver License and clean driving record Pre-Employment Driving History Will Be Pulled
Travel Requirements:
This position will require frequent, mandatory short and long-distance travel. The ability to travel is mandatory.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to do the following:
  • Verbally speak and/or listen.
  • Stand, walk, sit, crouch, kneel, stoop, crawl, climb and bend and lift and move up to 50lbs frequently and daily.
  • Use repetitive hand to finger movements.
  • Handle and/or feel tools, equipment, etc.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include, but are not limited to,
  • Up close vision, reading, color deciphering and identification.
  • Distant vision, reading, color deciphering and identification.
  • Peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
