Job description

KPRC 2 is seeking an Engagement Editor to support the growth of ENOUGH, KPRC 2’s accountability journalism project focused on investigative reporting, community solutions, and the issues impacting everyday Houstonians.

This position is responsible for developing and executing the audience strategy for ENOUGH by expanding the reach and impact of our journalism across broadcast, digital, social, streaming, and emerging platforms. The Engagement Editor will create platform-specific content, foster meaningful community engagement, identify audience-driven story opportunities, and ensure our investigations connect with the people who need them most.

This is a dedicated, 10 p.m. show-embedded role designed to help ENOUGH become a daily, must-follow accountability brand by growing loyal audiences, generating story leads through community engagement, and maximizing the impact of every investigation.

The Engagement Editor will report to the show’s Executive Producer and work closely with reporters, producers, photographers, editors, the digital team, and newsroom leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute audience engagement and distribution strategies for ENOUGH investigations across KPRC 2 digital platforms, YouTube, Instagram, Nextdoor, TikTok, streaming, newsletters, and emerging platforms.

Produce and publish platform-specific digital and social content that extends the life and impact of accountability reporting beyond the nightly broadcast.

Edit video, graphics, headlines, captions, and explainers optimized for each social media platform.

Collaborate with reporters and producers throughout the editorial process to identify digital storytelling opportunities, audience questions, and companion content before stories air.

Create social-first and mobile-first storytelling formats that are designed specifically for digital audiences rather than repurposed broadcast content.

Serve as the primary community engagement lead for ENOUGH by monitoring comments, messages, story tips, and audience conversations across social media and other community platforms.

Monitor audience conversations on platforms such as Reddit, Nextdoor, Facebook Groups, YouTube, and other digital communities to identify emerging issues and accountability story opportunities.

Develop audience callouts and engagement initiatives that encourage viewers to share experiences, submit tips, and participate in ongoing investigations.

Track audience performance metrics and analytics to inform content strategy, identify growth opportunities, and optimize future coverage.

Work closely with newsroom leadership, marketing, and digital teams to expand the ENOUGH brand and audience across all platforms.

Maintain KPRC 2’s editorial, legal, and ethical standards across all digital and social content.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, digital media, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience in digital journalism, audience engagement, social media strategy, or content production, preferably in a newsroom or media environment.

Strong news judgment with an understanding of investigative, consumer, and accountability journalism.

Excellent writing, editing, and headline-writing skills for digital and social platforms.

Experience creating and editing short-form video and platform-specific content for YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and other social platforms.

Working knowledge of video editing software and graphic design tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar platforms.

Familiarity with audience analytics, SEO best practices, YouTube optimization, and social media performance metrics.

Ability to work in a fast-paced newsroom environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet daily deadlines.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and collaborative communication skills.

Knowledge of the Houston market, local communities, and issues affecting Southeast Texas is preferred.

Passion for local journalism and a commitment to serving audiences through impactful accountability reporting.

Location:

8181 Southwest Freeway, Houston, Texas 77074
