Job description

Job Summary:

VFS Fire & Security Services is seeking a skilled and motivated Fire Alarm Service Technician to support our Fire Alarm Services team. This role is responsible for inspecting, testing, servicing, programming, troubleshooting, and repairing fire alarm and life safety systems in accordance with NFPA standards and local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.

The ideal candidate has hands on fire alarm service experience, a strong technical foundation, and the ability to work independently while providing high quality customer service. This position reports to the Fire Alarm Service Manager and supports customers across the assigned service territory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, test, service, troubleshoot, program, and repair fire alarm and life safety systems in compliance with NFPA 72, manufacturer specifications, and local codes
  • Perform scheduled testing including annual, semiannual, quarterly, and acceptance testing
  • Program, modify, and verify fire alarm control panels and system devices to ensure proper operation
  • Assist with system updates related to device replacement, system modifications, and code compliance
  • Identify system issues, document deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions
  • Complete clear, accurate, and timely inspection, testing, and service reports
  • Coordinate with customers, general contractors, and AHJs during inspections and testing
  • Respond to service calls and emergency repair requests as needed
  • Follow company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and jobsite procedures
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, and testing equipment
  • Support and assist junior technicians when needed

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of fire alarm service experience
  • Experience working with and programming fire alarm control panels
  • Familiarity with fire alarm panels such as Notifier, Silent Knight, FireLite, Edwards, Siemens, Simplex, or similar systems
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable local fire codes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, and system documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with electrical and lowvoltage systems
  • Good organizational and timemanagement skills
  • Ability to work independently in the field
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including a valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level I or II
  • Experience with smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, horn/strobes, and monitoring interfaces
  • Knowledge of IP and cellular communicators
  • Basic understanding of fire sprinkler supervisory and monitoring devices (water flow switches, valve tampers)
