Job description

Princess Cruises is seeking an experienced Fleet Traveling Manager, Rigging & Automation to provide technical leadership, operational support, training, and quality assurance for stage rigging, automation systems, scenic technologies, and entertainment equipment across our global fleet.
This highly visible traveling role partners closely with shipboard and shoreside teams to ensure the safe operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and continuous improvement of entertainment automation and rigging systems. The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert in theatrical automation, stagecraft, and rigging operations while helping develop onboard talent and maintain exceptional entertainment standards.

Fleetwide Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical expertise for automated and manual rigging systems, theatrical automation, scenic systems, control systems, hydraulics, electric motors, drives, and stage technologies.
  • Support shipboard teams with troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, inspections, and operational best practices.
  • Conduct onboard quality assurance visits and evaluate operational consistency across the fleet.
  • Partner with shipboard leadership, contractors, creative teams, and shoreside stakeholders to resolve technical and operational challenges.
Training & Development
  • Deliver hands-on training for Automation Operators, Crew Chiefs, and stage staff. 
  • Provide instruction on 
  1. TAIT control systems
  2. Chameleon5 software
  3. Navigator control systems
  4. Automated rigging systems
  5. Manual rigging systems
  6. Scenic operations and stagecraft practices
  • Assess technical competencies and identify development opportunities.
  • Support coaching and professional growth of onboard automation teams.
Project & Installation Support
  • Coordinate and support installation of new shows, entertainment products, scenic systems, and automation equipment.
  • Assist with equipment specifications, upgrades, and future technology initiatives.
  • Support programming, commissioning, testing, and operational readiness of new installations.
  • Ensure proper documentation, inspection records, and operational procedures are maintained.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a safety-first culture across all rigging and automation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, HESS requirements, fleet regulations, and applicable industry standards.
  • Support incident investigations, corrective actions, safety audits, and inspection readiness efforts.
  • Reinforce safe work practices, PPE usage, hazard awareness, and operational discipline.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of experience onboard cruise ships or in a similar entertainment venue.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of:
  1. Automated rigging systems
  2. Manual rigging systems
  3. Stage automation technologies
  4. Scenic systems
  5. Hydraulic systems
  6. Electric motors and drives
  7. Entertainment control systems
  8. Stagecraft and theatrical operations
  • Proven experience training and mentoring technical teams in safety-critical environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, reporting, and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with global stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Technical Theatre, Production Technology, Stagecraft, Rigging, Automation, Entertainment Technology, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in:
  1. Rigging
  2. Automation systems
  3. Performer flying systems
  4. Fall protection
  5. Electrical awareness
  6. Safety leadership
  7. Manufacturer-specific control systems
  • Experience with TAIT automation systems, Chameleon5 software, Navigator control systems, and large-scale theatrical automation technologies.
Travel Requirements
This is a fleet-traveling position requiring frequent international travel aboard Princess Cruises vessels and to project locations worldwide. The role includes onboard assignments, ship visits, installations, inspections, training engagements, and other operational support activities.
Physical Requirements
  • Candidates must be capable of performing the physical demands of entertainment technical operations, including:
  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • Climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Working at height when appropriately trained and authorized.
  • Working in backstage and confined technical spaces.
  • Maintaining balance and situational awareness aboard a moving vessel.
  • Supporting evening, weekend, overnight, and project-based schedules as required.
