Job description


As a Principal Wireless/ RF Engineer specializing in Antenna Technology at Honeywell Aerospace (HONA), your expertise and contributions will have a direct impact on business and technology. Your primary role will be in inventing novel solutions and development of defense antenna products for advanced Electronic Warfare systems for land, sea and air applications. Additional activity will include supporting the broader aerospace business of HONA.
Your knowledge and experience of Electromagnetics, aperture design, simulation, development and test along with creative problem-solving skills will enable HONA to develop cutting-edge products to support the warfighter and needs of our customers. Your collaboration with customers to understand their requirements and provide innovative solutions will strengthen our relationships and drive customer satisfaction.
You will report directly to our Antenna Engineering Manager with access to senior leadership, and you'll work at our Lansdale, PA location with an On-site work schedule. The technology and business at this site have over 75 years of development of antenna products and subsystems for defense applications. The site includes over a dozen antenna test facilities including seven (7) anechoic chambers, Compact range, Nearfield scanner and multiple outdoor ranges. Additionally, the site includes specialty antenna test and tune stations, Load Chambers and High-Power test facilities for both room temperature and wide ranging environmentally testing of antennas. A wide range of antenna products and subsystems spanning 3 MHz to 110 GHz are developed and manufactured at this site spanning narrow band patch antennas to 50:1 broad band antenna for low power applications and multi-octave high-power applications.
In this role as a Principal Wireless RF Engineer specializing in Antenna technology at HONA, your influence and impact will be significant in the pursuit of novel antenna technology solutions. You will be at the forefront of developing and implementing cutting-edge antenna technologies that have a direct impact on the organization and its customers. Your work may contribute to the advancement of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and connected products that focus heavily toward military and commercial aerospace systems.
In this dynamic environment you will invent solutions and lead in designing, developing and testing sophisticated RF/Microwave Antennas and RF feeds used in a wide variety of Aerospace and Defense applications, providing protection to our warfighters. At the Principal level technology, leadership and execution in a team environment are essential skills in achieving the program development goals. The successful candidate will have a solid theoretical background in RF/Microwave theory and will also have the creative thinking skills to invent new antenna solutions and lead development from concept to product or applicable subsystem.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Invent, Design and Develop of RF/Microwave antennas and/or array elements spanning the electromagnetic spectrum of 3 MHz to 110 GHz, for a wide variety of narrow band and wide band. Expert knowledge and use of computer design tools such as HFSS, ADS, AWR, CST, GRASP, WIPL, and MATLAB are assumed.
  • Knowledge of a wide array of antenna types such as Microstrip patch, Horn, Spiral, Dipole, Blade, Reflector and Interferometers / AESA antenna element design and fabrication methods including technical proposal preparation, product qualification, and support to production.
  • Work Individually and/or with a team of engineers and technicians to develop antennas and act as technology advisors to support varied antenna products, technology and subsystems (i.e., CNI, Munitions, Missile, Electronic Warfare, Situational Awareness & Self-protection, Interferometers, AESA and other).
  • Lead, Design, analysis and test of RF/Microwave Antennas, hybrids, feed structures, filters and elements for a variety of applications
  • Documentation of design elements, antenna test procedures and support to Mechanical Engineering for design/drafting and R&M engineering.
  • Recommend and lead Set up and operational Testing and evaluation of engineering hardware in a laboratory environment
  • Part Time Travel (less than 10%) expected to support across sites for production support, as well as customer meetings, trade shows, etc.
  • Preparation and presentation of customer support meetings such as TIMs, PDRs, CDRs, etc.
  • Provide technical leadership in Antenna Capital needs and technical rationale for such capital based on measurement needs and applicable technology (i.e., Compact Range vs Near Field Scanner vs Far Field anechoic chamber vs Low frequency Tapered Chamber).

Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
  • BSEE
    • Fifteen, 15 years of experience in RF/Microwave Antenna design
    • Fifteen, 15 years' experience with RF measurements including VSWR, Insertion Loss, Phase, Coupling, Pattern and Gain measurements, etc.
  • MSEE
    • Twelve, 12 years of experience in RF/Microwave Antenna design
    • Twelve, 12 years' experience with RF measurements including VSWR, Insertion Loss, Phase, Coupling, Pattern and Gain measurements, etc.
  • Eight, 8 years of experience operating PC using standard applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, etc.
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. To be eligible for this position, you must be a "US Person" under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license)
  • This position requires you to be able to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Secret security clearance

  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in written format. Ability to lead a technical team on antenna centric development programs with cross functional group of Mechanical, Electrical, System and R&M engineers.
  • Ability to generate White Papers, technical proposal documents and Basis -of-Estimates for advanced technical Bid & Proposal pursuits and solutions.
  • Excellent presentation skills for internal and customer meetings, reviews, and updates

Must be a US Citizen due to contractual requirements.
The annual base salary range for this position is $166,000 - $207,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
