Description

The Museum School of Avondale Estates seeks a qualified, dynamic, and passionate educator to become the full-time (K-8) music/chorus teacher. The teacher will develop and   implement hands-on and interactive general music lessons for grades K-3 and Chorus lessons for grades 6-8 that are aligned with the Georgia Department of Education standards.   Additionally, the teacher will work closely with other staff  members to aid in integrating   music within academic settings, via creative collaborations. 

The mission of The Museum School of Avondale Estates is to inspire students, teachers, and the community to collaborate to develop strong critical thinking, interpersonal, and academic skills in our students, which will prepare them for real-world success. The Museum School offers the accessibility of a public school with the organizational and curricular innovation of a museum school model. Beginning at the neighborhood level, students develop a strong sense of community, independence, responsibility, and respect for the impact of their decisions and actions on others. These skills will inspire them with the confidence to identify and manage problems at the local and global level.


Responsibilities


  • Provide a comprehensive music program that integrates music education and instruction with creativity, exploration, and instrumental experiences.
  • Develop and implement GA DOE standards-aligned lessons and activities, combining vocal and instrumental programs within music instruction 
  • Deliver instruction grounded in the Museum School model, including hands-on, inquiry-based learning
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles
  • Plan collaboratively with school staff to enrich units, support Learning Expeditions, and prepare for Exhibit Nights 
  • Collaborate with music staff and school teams to support performances, concerts, Exhibit Nights, and Learning Expeditions
  • Participate in Professional Development  workshops and opportunities 
  • Contribute to a cohesive and aligned K-8 music program
  • Establish and maintain a proactive, consistent classroom management system
  • Reflect on instructional practices and engage in ongoing professional growth, including the development of a Professional Growth Plan
  • Organize and oversee an overnight middle school chorus trip, annually, in conjunction with the orchestra teacher
  • Organize evening and school choral performances, at least two times per year, for middle grades chorus


Requirements


  • Minimum Bachelors Degree; Degree in field of music education preferred 
  • Georgia Music P-12 teaching certification; 
  • Experience with elementary and middle grades students required    
  • Experience with group vocal music appropriate to grade level and associated   keyboard skills
  • Experience with integrating standards-aligned lessons and activities while incorporating effective instructional practices 
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills 
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
