Middle School Math Interventionist

Funding Source: Title I

Reports To: Building Administrator

Work Calendar: 185 day teacher contract


Position Overview


The Middle School Math Interventionist supports students in grades 7–8 who need additional instruction to meet Indiana Academic Standards in mathematics. The interventionist provides targeted, evidence-based instruction, collaborates with teachers to implement tiered supports within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and uses data to accelerate student achievement in mathematics.

The Math Interventionist will support implementation of key statewide initiatives, including:

  • Advancing K-12 Mathematics for Indiana Students framework emphasizing conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, reasoning, and problem solving.
  • Early identification and intervention for struggling math learners, requiring schools to provide targeted support when students fall below grade-level proficiency.
  • Expanded access to advanced mathematics pathways, including preparing students for Algebra I readiness and middle school acceleration opportunities.
  • Implementation of instructional practices aligned with Indiana Academic Standards for Mathematics and evidence-based teaching practices.


This role supports district and state priorities to strengthen mathematics instruction and improve student outcomes aligned with Indiana Department of Education initiatives.



Key Responsibilities


  • Provide Tier II and Tier III targeted mathematics interventions for students performing below grade level.
  • Deliver small-group and individualized instruction focused on priority standards in grades 7–8.
  • Utilize research-based strategies to support conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, reasoning, and problem solving.
  • Support students in mastering foundational skills needed for Algebra readiness.
  • Analyze student data from district assessments, ILEARN results, and classroom assessments to identify learning gaps.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data.
  • Maintain documentation of interventions and student progress for MTSS teams.
  • Collaborate with math teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators to design intervention plans.
  • Participate in MTSS meetings and provide recommendations for student support.
  • Support classroom teachers with intervention strategies and differentiation practices.
  • Participate in professional learning aligned with IDOE mathematics initiatives.
  • Support staff in implementing high-quality instructional practices in mathematics.
  • Support implementation of district math curriculum and intervention programs.
  • Assist with progress monitoring tools and assessment administration.
  • Communicate student progress with teachers, administrators, and families.
  • Contribute to school improvement initiatives related to mathematics achievement.


Qualifications


  • Valid Indiana Teaching License with Mathematics endorsement (Middle School or Secondary).
  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience
  • Experience analyzing student achievement data and implementing targeted interventions.
  • Strong understanding of Indiana Academic Standards for Mathematics.
  • Experience with math intervention programs and diagnostic assessments.
  • Training in evidence-based mathematics instructional practices.
