About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Full-Stack MERN Developer for a 6-month hybrid contract engagement with a global enterprise insurance technology group in downtown Chicago.

In this role, you will design, develop, test, and deploy custom data analytics solutions and application modules. You will work across the full stack utilizing MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js, SQL, and AWS infrastructure, supporting complex data migrations and modern client-facing applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full-Stack Engineering: Independently design, develop, code, test, and debug web applications and technical modules using the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node) and relational SQL databases.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure Maintenance: Deploy, manage, and maintain application environments on AWS infrastructure (utilizing EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, and related services).
  • Data & Analytics Integration: Support custom data analytics solutions, complex SQL database queries, data migrations, and application integration.
  • DevOps & Version Control: Manage source code repositories using Git (branching, merging, PR reviews) while following established deployment and testing workflows.
  • Technical Mentorship & Support: Serve as a senior technical resource and mentor for junior developers; assist with escalated tier-3 technical troubleshooting and root-cause resolution.
  • AI & Modern Workflow Adoption: Leverage modern AI-driven developer tools and automated practices to optimize coding efficiency and accelerate feature delivery.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Experience: 6 to 10 years of professional full-stack web development experience with a heavy focus on the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js).
  • SQL & Database Mastery: Strong proficiency in SQL databases, including complex query writing, schema design, and data manipulation.
  • Cloud Services: Hands-on experience deploying and managing applications on AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Version Control: Deep experience with Git version control and collaborative developer workflows.
  • Engineering Best Practices: Proven expertise in software design patterns, unit testing, debugging, CI/CD, and documentation.
  • Location & Work Model: Must reside locally in the Chicago metro area and be able to work 3 days/week on-site in downtown Chicago.

Preferred / Bonus Skills

  • Experience within the Insurance, Commercial Claims, or Risk Management domain.
  • Hands-on experience with TypeScript and modern containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience handling enterprise data migrations and custom analytics engine builds.
