Schedule Details:: Base shift is Monday - Friday 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Four 10-hour shifts potentially available during non-winter months. Position is intended to support afternoon and evening maintenance needs throughout the year. Weekend hours required during snow removal events and maintenance emergencies.
Description
At the Durango-La Plata County Airport (DRO), our facilities support commercial air service, general aviation, tenants, and over a half million travelers each year. As a Facilities Maintenance Technician, you'll be responsible for the systems that keep the airport running-from HVAC, electrical, and plumbing to heavy equipment and snow removal operations.
This is a permanent afternoon/evening position, with a base schedule of Monday-Friday, 2:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m. This dedicated shift expands maintenance coverage into the afternoon and evening hours, giving you the opportunity to work on a wide range of facility and airfield needs while supporting airport operations beyond the traditional daytime schedule. During non-winter months, four 10-hour shifts may be available. Weekend work is required during snow removal events and maintenance emergencies.

Essential Job Duties
What You'll Do in This Role:
  • Keep airport facilities, buildings, and grounds safe, clean, and fully operational.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical components.
  • Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment, including forklifts, graders, backhoes, heavy plow trucks, high speed brooms, and rotary snow blowers.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot high-voltage runway and taxiway lighting systems and other airfield navigation aids.
  • Conduct pavement maintenance on runways, taxiways, roadways, and parking areas, including crack sealing, striping, and minor repairs.
  • Keep the airfield and landside grounds in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety standards through mowing, fencing repairs, and sprinkler system maintenance.
  • Perform skilled trades work such as carpentry, painting, welding, and basic fabrication.
  • Repair and help maintain airport fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist with custodial duties as assigned, including cleaning restrooms and offices, vacuuming floors, removing trash, disinfecting surfaces, and washing windows.

Minimum Qualifications
You Have:
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A valid state driver's license.
  • The ability to pass background check to work in Transportation (TSA) secured area.
  • One to two years of experience in building and grounds maintenance.
You Will Succeed in This Role if You:
  • Have a strong understanding of building trades, including the proper use of tools, materials, and safety practices.
  • Can accurately follow technical documents such as safety rules, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Have availability to work allocated hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts for snow removal.
