PROVISO TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOLS DISTRICT #209
POSITION JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Evening School Paraprofessional (Teacher's Aide)
RATE OF PAY: $40 PER HOUR
HOURS: 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. (Monday-Thursday)

REPORTS TO:
Deputy Superintendent for School Improvement
Building Principal
Supervising Classroom Teacher


QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Experience or Training

  • Valid Illinois Paraprofessional Educator endorsement or other applicable approval issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
  • Meet all applicable state and District requirements for employment as a paraprofessional
  • Ability to work effectively with high school students with varying academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and learning needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other educational personnel

Desired Experience or Training

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Previous experience as a paraprofessional or teacher's aide
  • Previous experience working with high school students
  • Experience supporting students with disabilities and/or diverse learning needs

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

STUDENT INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT

  1. Provide additional assistance to students with identified learning needs, including students with disabilities and English learners.
  2. Tutor and assist students individually or in small groups to help them complete assignments and reinforce concepts presented by classroom teachers.
  3. Provide instructional support under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher.
  4. Assist students in understanding classroom assignments, directions, and instructional materials.
  5. Reinforce skills and concepts taught by the classroom teacher.
  6. Assist with the distribution and collection of tests, assignments, instructional materials, and other classroom resources.

STUDENT SUPERVISION AND SUPPORT

  1. Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and other designated school areas or activities as assigned.
  2. Support and reinforce District, school, and classroom policies, procedures, expectations, and rules governing student conduct.
  3. Observe student performance and behavior and communicate relevant information to the supervising teacher.
  4. Assist in maintaining a safe, respectful, positive, and productive learning environment.
  5. Support students in the appropriate use and care of equipment, technology, and instructional materials.
  6. Provide appropriate assistance to students with physical, academic, behavioral, or social-emotional needs within the scope of the paraprofessional role.

COLLABORATION AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional and student-support efforts.
  2. Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, social workers, administrators, and other educational personnel as appropriate.
  3. Maintain student confidentiality and comply with all applicable District policies and state and federal requirements regarding student information.
  4. Maintain accurate records or documentation as directed by the supervising teacher or administrator.
  5. Be punctual and maintain regular attendance for all assigned Evening School workdays.
  6. Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and appropriate communication with students, families, staff, and administrators.
  7. Serve as a positive role model for students.
  8. Follow the direction of the supervising classroom teacher and administration.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, supervising classroom teacher, or appropriate District administrator.
