Experienced Boys (Varsity) Head Coach (Mt Baker Rowing & Sailing)
Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center is seeking applicants for the position of Experienced Boys (Varsity) Head Coach during the upcoming junior crew season. Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center sits on the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle and enjoys access to miles of open waterway. Our facility has multiple indoor instruction spaces and workout areas along with easily accessible motor launches and administrative staff support. Our primary focus is to provide safe, enjoyable programs that use competitive opportunities as a catalyst for social, emotional, and physical development.
Job Title: Experienced Boys (Varsity) Head Coach
Location: Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center - Seattle, WA
Position Type: Part-Time
Work Week Schedule:
  • Practice schedule is Monday through Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Requirements also include weekend competition, seasonal staff trainings, and staff meetings. Additional paid planning hours during the competitive season are included. Other coaching opportunities and boathouse maintenance hours may be available depending on interest.
    Fall: Early September through mid November
    Conditioning: November and January
    Spring: Late January through mid May
    Summer: July/August (optional)

Pay
  • Starting Pay: $29.24/hr
  • Full Pay Range: $29.24-33.74/hr (employee may earn up to $39.24/hr with continued employment)

Experienced Boys (Varsity) Head Coach Job Responsibilities:
  • We are seeking a leader and mentor who will help team members develop a life-long passion for athletics and will teach and model teamwork, safety, sportsmanship, skill, and mutual respect.
  • This coach will work directly with the Experienced Boys Assistant coach to develop and implement training and practice plans and prepare teams for competition. Members of Mount Baker's experienced youth rowing program range in age from 13-18 and have already completed a novice rowing season.
  • Plan and lead daily practices and regattas
  • Support the physical and technical development of experienced high school rowers
  • Uphold team standards and contribute to a culture of respect, accountability, and inclusion
  • Provide mentorship and guidance both on and off the water
  • Ensure athlete safety and adherence to all Mt. Baker and Seattle Parks and Recreation policies

Experienced Boys (Varsity) Head Coach-Rowing and Sailing Qualifications:
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Able to work in a collaboratively in a supportive, team environment
  • At least 5 years of experience in competitive rowing
  • Candidates must be able to pass a 10 minute float test prior to date of hire
  • Candidate must be able to commit to a full academic season (September through May)
  • Clean driving record

Desired Qualifications:
  • Youth coaching experience
  • Trailer driving experience
  • Rigging experience
  • USRowing Coaching Level 2 Certification
  • Shell repair and maintenance experience

Required Certifications:
  • Washington State Driver's license by date of hire
  • USRowing SafeSport trained prior to start date
  • USRowing Level 2 certification within 6 months of hire
  • Washington State Boaters Education certification within 1 month of hire
  • CPR/First Aid within 1 month of hire
