Costume Characters, Hosts & DJs

SeaWorld San Diego is seeking energetic, enthusiastic performers to help bring our family-friendly Halloween celebration, Spooktacular, to life!

Spooktacular is SeaWorld's daytime Halloween event filled with music, dancing, costumes, trick-or-treating, and unforgettable family fun. We're looking for talented individuals who love entertaining guests and creating memorable experiences for children and families.

Roles Being Cast

DJs and Show Hosts
Keep the party going as the soundtrack to Spooktacular! We're looking for high-energy, family-friendly DJs and Show Hosts who can engage guests of all ages, create a fun atmosphere, and keep families dancing throughout the day. Strong microphone skills and the ability to read a crowd are a plus.

Costume Characters
Bring Halloween to life as one of our fang-tastic Spooktacular & Baby Shark characters. Performers should be comfortable interacting with guests without speaking, posing for photos, and creating memorable experiences for families.

Requirements:

  • Height ranges: 5'0"-5'3", 5'3"-5'5", 5'6" - 5'10"
  • Slim build to fit existing costumes
  • Comfortable performing both outdoors and indoors
  • Ability to emote to music

Mermaid Performers
Step into an enchanting underwater world as one of Spooktacular's resident mermaids. Performers will engage guests through immersive interactions, storytelling, and magical photo opportunities in a beautifully themed setting. If you enjoy creating memorable guest experiences while staying in character, this is a unique opportunity to bring the magic of the sea to life.

Requirements:

  • Heights and sizes are flexible
  • Strong improvisation and guest interaction skills preferred
  • Ability to remain in character while interacting with guests of all ages
  • Comfortable performing outdoors in a themed costume

Event Dates & Availability

Spooktacular performances will take place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from September 11, 2026 to November 2, 2026.

Rehearsals will begin in August 2026. Candidates must be available for rehearsals as scheduled, including weekday and evening rehearsals.

Pay Rate

$19.00+ per hour, depending on role, experience, and performer assignment.

What It Takes to Join the Team
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in dance, theatre, live entertainment, theme park entertainment, or related performance fields preferred.
  • Strong guest service and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform in front of large audiences and interact with guests of all ages.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to accept performance feedback and adapt accordingly.
  • Comfortable working around theatrical effects including fog, haze, bubbles, scents, and other show elements.
  • Ability to stand, walk, dance, bend, kneel, squat, and perform repetitive physical movements for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, rehearsals, and special events as scheduled.
  • Must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, enthusiasm, and a positive team-oriented attitude.
