Job description

Wilkes University invites applicants for an Assistant Technical Director opening. This is a full-time, salaried, 12-month staff position with benefits in the Division of Performing Arts. The Division offers a BFA in Musical Theatre, a BA in Theatre Arts, and a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology, as well as minors in Music, Theatre, and Dance.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and will have experience and training in most or all of the following skill areas: scenic construction and painting techniques, theatrical lighting design and implementation (including ETC consoles), props design and construction, sound design and implementation, technical software (such as Vectorworks, Qlab, Lightwright, etc.), digital sound boards, and sound reinforcement using wireless microphones. Experience with generation and editing software, projection design and technology, digital sound and video recording, and streaming technology is a plus. Candidates must have excellent communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and time-management skills.

The position is responsible for: assisting in the training and managing of student crews; support for theatre productions, music concerts, dance concerts and lectures in the Darte Center for the Performing Arts; recruiting students to the Theatre Design and Technology major; and providing occasional assistance in technical support for additional events in the Darte Center. The successful candidate will also be responsible for technical support for two ballet productions annually produced by the Wilkes University Conservatory. If qualified, design and teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation. Weekend and evening hours are required.

Candidates with a BFA/BA in theatre design and technical theatre and significant professional experience are encouraged to apply; an MFA in theatre design and technical theatre is a plus. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and compensation includes a competitive benefits package.
