Position Description
The Plant Operator is responsible for supporting all operational aspects of the asphalt plant, including material handling, equipment operation, routine maintenance, and upkeep of the plant site. This role involves operating a variety of heavy equipment (such as loaders, skid steers, haul trucks, and water trucks), ensuring safe work practices, and assisting with both mechanical and administrative tasks as directed by the Plant Manager.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment including loaders, skid steers, haul trucks, water trucks, and man lifts.
  • Feed plant and RAP pro-sizing units as required to support plant production.
  • Assist the Plant Manager in daily plant operations and ensure operational readiness.
  • Perform general labor duties including greasing, cleaning, organizing, and housekeeping.
  • Conduct basic mechanical maintenance, welding, and fabrication tasks as needed.
  • Adhere to company policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Proactively detect and respond to equipment malfunctions and safety hazards.
  • Maintain operational records in accordance with regulatory and permit requirements.
  • Provide feedback on operational improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Follow detailed instructions and communicate clearly with team members.
  • Report equipment issues, safety concerns, and injuries promptly.
  • Work safely in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times and comply with the Employee Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Position Requirements
Minimum Requirements, Abilities and Expectations
  • Two years of basic maintenance position (preferred)
  • Pass pre-employment drug test
  • Able to lift, carry, and hold materials, tools and supplies
  • Good mechanical knowledge
  • Ability to operate dump truck and skid steer
  • Ability to interact effectively with others and resolve conflicts
  • Self-motivated
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to initiate and embrace change
  • Ability to work in a team environment
