3D Dental Printing Technician

Company Overview

Founded in 2010 and with locations in Tempe and Tucson, JB Dental Lab is a state-of-the-art Full Service Dental Laboratory, specializing in digital Full-Arch Solutions.ย  We take pride in utilizing advanced digital workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy in dental restorations, reducing chair time and ensuring high-quality outcomes for patients.

Position Summary

Responsible for operating and maintaining 3D printing equipment to support efficient, high-quality production. This role performs routine printer operation, calibration, and preventive maintenance activities, including cleaning, lubrication, leveling, and consumable replacement, while accurately documenting maintenance and calibration results to support quality management system (QMS) requirements. The position also maintains a clean and organized production environment and ensures adequate supplies of resin, alcohol, and other consumables to sustain uninterrupted manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate all 3D printers and associated equipment
  • Perform and log basic maintenance tasks on printers (cleaning, lubricating rails, leveling, film changes)
  • Perform and basic calibration tasks on printers and log results for QMS tracking (leveling, shrinkage calibration)
  • Clean production area & equipment as needed
  • Swap and replace production consumables as needed to ensure quality production (alcohol, resin, printer consumables)

Safely handle and dispose of resins and waste products associated with the production process according to SDS info and regulations:

  • Follow instructions on work tickets and Rx forms to ensure quality product
  • Track case production information by scanning cases and entering data into QMS logs
  • Operate CAM/slicing software to prepare jobs for printers
  • Understand relevant dental/down & upstream production tasks to aid production

Know how to support, arrange, hollow, orient, and otherwise manipulate STL models in CAM/slicing software to ensure optimal printing:

Inform the Printing Manager of supplies/equipment that need to be ordered

Safely take down print jobs and remove them from build plates without injuring the parts or yourself

Closely follow post-processing instructions for various resins to ensure parts are both cleaned and cured completely before sending the case out of the department:

  • Bring complicated/biocompatible cases to 3D Printing Manager for QC before or after production as appropriate
  • Bring completed cases to their next area of production
  • Stock common supplies in the printing production area as needed
  • Pick up case pans ready for 3D printing in a timely manner
  • Inform the 3D Printing Manager and front desk staff when cases will be delayed

Recognize common CAD issues and problems in STLs and work with CAD team/3D Printing manager to resolve:

  • Check STL files and print jobs for errors before starting production
  • Know how to use measuring equipment (digital calipers, micrometer) and record accurate results
  • Troubleshoot printing failures and reach out to the 3D Printing Manager for assistance as needed
  • Upload all print job log files to web service designated by the 3D Printing Manager as jobs are completed for tracking and accountability

Know how to post-process 3D-printed parts to remove surface blemishes and support spurs when needed:

  • Coordinate with other departments to complete cases/requests as needed
  • Assist the 3D Printing Manager with other relevant tasks at the Manager'sย discretion
