This role offers the opportunity to build reliable backend systems that power a modern compensation platform used by organizations and employees across Europe.
You will design, develop, and improve scalable services that simplify benefits, payments, and flexible compensation experiences.
The position combines backend engineering excellence, product thinking, and ownership within a fast-moving SaaS environment.
You will collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to solve meaningful customer problems from discovery through delivery.
Working remotely within Europe, you will have the autonomy to make technical decisions and directly influence product outcomes.
This opportunity is ideal for an engineer who enjoys building impactful systems, improving reliability, and working in a collaborative product-driven culture.

Accountabilities

The Software Engineer (Backend) will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend systems while contributing to product decisions and improving the overall engineering experience.

  • Develop reliable, scalable backend services that support a compensation platform used by businesses and employees.
  • Design and implement APIs, database solutions, and architectural improvements that enhance performance and maintainability.
  • Build production-ready systems with strong testing practices, monitoring, observability, and resilience.
  • Own features end-to-end, from technical discovery and design through implementation, deployment, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to identify the right solutions for customer needs.
  • Contribute technical expertise during product discovery, challenge assumptions, and help shape product direction.
  • Improve system performance through optimization, better error handling, reduced latency, and stronger data consistency.
  • Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to engineering standards through reviews, knowledge sharing, and collaboration.
  • Work with modern development practices including small pull requests, CI/CD workflows, and continuous delivery.
  • Build systems capable of supporting multiple markets with different regulatory, compliance, and business requirements.
  • Apply AI-assisted development practices to improve productivity, problem-solving, and engineering workflows.
  • Support team growth by sharing knowledge, pairing with colleagues, and contributing to a strong engineering culture.
Requirements

The ideal candidate is a backend engineer with strong software development fundamentals, a product mindset, and experience building reliable systems in a collaborative environment.

  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals with experience building and maintaining production systems.
  • Experience developing scalable applications and services with a focus on reliability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, observability, monitoring, and production operations.
  • Experience working with CI/CD practices and shipping incremental changes through collaborative development workflows.
  • Product-oriented mindset with the ability to understand user outcomes beyond technical implementation.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with engineering, product, and design teams.
  • Experience working with databases, particularly PostgreSQL or similar relational database technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and modern engineering tools such as AWS, Kubernetes, GitHub, GitHub Actions, ConfigCat, or Datadog.
  • Experience with Elixir and Phoenix frameworks is a strong advantage.
  • Experience in B2B SaaS, fintech, payments, or regulated industries is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and prompt-based workflows is beneficial.
  • Ability to balance speed, quality, and pragmatic decision-making in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong ownership mindset, adaptability, and willingness to take responsibility for technical outcomes.
Benefits
  • Fully remote opportunity within Europe.
  • Competitive base salary ranging from 50K to 80K gross annually, depending on experience.
  • Equity participation through VSOPs.
  • Permanent employment contract.
  • Opportunity to work on a product that directly impacts how companies support and reward their employees.
  • High level of autonomy and ownership over meaningful engineering challenges.
  • Collaborative environment with direct communication and transparent decision-making.
