Role: The LYCRA Company is currently seeking a Controls Technician to join our team in Waynesboro, VA.


Key Responsibilities

  • Repair, calibration, and troubleshooting of instruments, control valves, transmitters, and associated control systems.
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot control loops, instruments, and/or entire control systems.
  • Troubleshoot misbehaving PID control loops; distinguish tuning problems from instrument faults, control valve issues, actuator/positioner problems, or process disturbances.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, and instrument data sheets to trace signal paths end-to-end.
  • Troubleshoot and repair 480V Motor Control Centers and associated distribution equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctioning apparatus and components including transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, motors, and controllers.
  • Ability to operate and work safely from man lifts, scissor lifts, etc.
  • Troubleshoot, install, program, and tune VFDs for proper operation.
  • Select and use proper PPE to OSHA and NFPA 70E standards.
  • Demonstrate and understand the principles of electricity, electronics, control, and power distribution systems.

Qualifications (Required)

  • At least 3 years of industrial experience in a Controls Technician, Instrument Technician, Electrical Technician, or Maintenance-related full-time position OR 1 year of industrial experience in a related position with a 2-year degree.
  • Working knowledge of single and three phase power systems to include Motor Control Centers, Transformers, and Panelboards.
  • Working knowledge of temperature, pressure, level, and flow measurement and control.
  • Familiarity with 4-20 mA analog signal loops and basic PID control concepts.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, electrical schematics, and instrument data sheets.
  • Ability to read and understand the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E.
  • Ability to use electrical testing equipment.
  • Ability to use a computer (PC), including Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Must be willing and able to work a normal day-based schedule (8-hour day-based; 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) with occasional nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience rebuilding control valves.
  • Electrical Journeyman certification.
  • At least 5 years of industrial experience in a Controls Technician, Instrument Technician, Electrical Technician, or Maintenance-related role.
  • Able to troubleshoot analog and digital control circuits.
  • Experience troubleshooting, programming, and installing VFDs.
  • Able to install raceways, wiring, and associated equipment to code.
  • Minimum Level 1 ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) Certification.
  • Working knowledge of Emerson, Mitsubishi, and Siemens drives.
  • Able to install, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and DCS systems.
  • SAP experience.
