SUMMARY OF COMPANY:

Initially founded to supply the physical and bioethanol to the U.S. refining industry, BioUrja Trading has since evolved into a leading supplier of LPG, refined petroleum products, in addition to maintaining its strong presence in bioethanol supply and trading sector. POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Director of Sustainability to lead and expand our sustainability initiatives within the ethanol trading and renewables industry. This role will focus on integrating renewable feedstocks, carbon capture and utilization (CCU), and regulatory certifications into our global trading operations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering business value through sustainable innovation and regulatory leadership in the biofuels or renewables sector.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development and execution of sustainability strategies aligned with ethanol trading and renewable fuels markets.
  • Drive the implementation of Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) projects to reduce emissions and convert CO2 into value-added ethanol-based products.
  • Oversee the certification and compliance processes for renewable fuel standards, and other relevant sustainability frameworks.
  • Collaborate with trading, logistics, and regulatory teams to ensure traceability and mass-balance accounting of renewable feedstocks.
  • Develop and manage Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), Product Carbon Footprints (PCF), and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) to support customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Engage with industry stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and sustainability organizations to shape policy and promote sustainable ethanol solutions.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to identify and scale up sustainable opportunities that enhance profitability and market differentiation.
  • Oversee the application, documentation, and audit functions for all advanced or cellulosic Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) across all company locations, ensuring compliance and accuracy, while coordinating day-to-day activities with the India team.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) programs, ensuring all documentation and compliance requirements are met for these and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Prepare documentation and represent BioUrja Trading, LLC and its partner companies during on-site and off-site sustainability audits at various locations, including but not limited to Peoria, IL and Plainview, TX.
  • Ensure that sustainability documentation for BioUrja Trading, LLC remains current and compliant across all relevant regulatory agencies and programs, including but not limited to USA 45Z, Germany Nabisy, UK Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO), and French Carbure.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Sustainability, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in sustainability leadership roles, preferably in the biofuels, ethanol, or renewables industry.
  • Deep understanding of renewable feedstocks, CCU technologies, and sustainability certifications relevant to ethanol markets.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with LCA, PCF, and sustainability reporting tools.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience representing organizations at conferences and in the media.
  • Experience launching certified CCU-based products and managing ISCC CFC or similar certifications.
  • Proven ability to drive incremental revenue through sustainable product portfolios.
  • Familiarity with global ethanol markets, trading operations, and regulatory landscapes.
