What is an esthetician in training?

Estheticians in training are individuals who are currently enrolled in a state-approved cosmetology or esthetician program, learning the skills and knowledge required to become licensed estheticians. They typically study topics such as skincare, facials, hair removal, makeup application, and sanitation practices under the supervision of licensed instructors. During their training, they gain hands-on experience with clients in a supervised setting. Upon completing the program and passing the required exams, they can apply for a state license to practice professionally as estheticians.

What does an esthetician in training do?

As an Esthetician In Training, you'll typically assist with a range of tasks such as performing basic facials, waxing, and prepping treatment areas under supervision. You'll also practice client communication, sanitation procedures, and product knowledge, often working closely with licensed estheticians and instructors. This hands-on experience is designed to build your technical skills and confidence, while preparing you for the state licensing exam. The collaborative environment also helps you understand how to work effectively in a spa or salon team.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an esthetician in training?

To thrive as an Esthetician In Training, you need a basic understanding of skin care, anatomy, sanitation, and a high school diploma or equivalent, along with enrollment in a licensed esthetics program. Familiarity with tools such as facial steamers, microdermabrasion devices, and industry software for scheduling and client records is beneficial. Excellent customer service, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help build client trust and foster a positive experience. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering safe, effective treatments and building a loyal client base in a competitive industry.

What is the difference between Esthetician In Training vs Esthetician?

AspectEsthetician In TrainingEsthetician
CredentialsEnrolled in esthetician training program, no license yetLicensed esthetician with completed training
Work EnvironmentUnder supervision, training salons or spasIndependent or team-based salons, spas, clinics
Job ResponsibilitiesLearning skincare techniques, assisting licensed estheticiansPerforming facials, waxing, skincare treatments independently
