Job description

Overview
Join First Citizens Bank and be part of a team dedicated to helping clients build stronger financial futures. From banking and lending to investments, insurance, and wealth planning, the First Citizens Wealth team provides comprehensive solutions backed by trusted expertise. Here, your work helps power meaningful progress for the clients and communities we serve.
This position serves as primary resource for tax issues related to existing Wealth clients. Brings proactive thought leadership and insight to the field regarding tax strategies and tax law changes impacting current clients. Works closely with the Bank's external tax vendor and internal tax administrator to ensure tax filings are accurate, timely, and comply with all regulatory rules. Engages with the Estate Settlement Group regarding post-mortem planning, and provides oversight on 706 returns. Engages with Administration to address complicated issues from a tax perspective and consult accordingly.
Responsibilities
  • Business and Advisory Strategy - Provides strategic leadership and oversight to the department in order to enhance advisory capabilities. Educates associates to leverage identified tax and estate planning opportunities embedded in client situations. Provides training and guidance on tax, estate, and financial planning issues that enable associates to create appropriate recommendations for client action. Proactively develops and delivers thought leadership articles, marketing material and presentations.
  • Internal Tax Consultation - Leads internal tax consultation delivery to relationship management teams addressing tax implications of account dynamics and proposed planning techniques.
  • Managerial Functions - Manages the preparation of tax or information returns for Wealth clients to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with all applicable regulations. Establishes and monitors expectations to achieve group goals. Makes appropriate changes to team policies, procedures, and efficiencies in order to meet objectives Maximizes department achievements by providing professional development.
  • Risk Mitigation - Mitigates fiduciary risks to the Bank by reviewing certain processes and account types for adherence to Tax Regulations, Trust Regulations and internal Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of experience in Trust, Probate, or Tax OR High School Diploma or GED and 14 years of experience in Trust, Probate, or Tax
Preferred Skills: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Juris Doctor (JD)
