Job description

Job Summary:
Pittsboro Elementary School is seeking a caring, dependable, and motivated Instructional Assistant to support students in our Essential Skills Program. 
This position provides direct assistance to students with significant learning, behavioral, or physical needs, working closely with the classroom teacher 
and special education staff to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
 




Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Provide direct support to students in the Essential Skills classroom, including academic instruction, life skills training, and behavioral support
     
  • Assist students with personal care tasks as needed (e.g., toileting, feeding, mobility)
     
  • Implement instructional plans and behavior strategies under the guidance of certified staff
     
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and arrival/dismissal
     
  • Track and document student progress and behavior data as directed
     
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards at all times
     
  • Participate in staff training and meetings as required
     
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or principal
     

Qualifications:
 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
     
  • Associate's degree, 60+ college credit hours, or passing score on the ParaPro Assessment preferred
     
  • Experience working with students with special needs is highly desirable
     
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
     
  • Patience, compassion, and a commitment to helping students succeed
     
  • Ability to lift and assist students with physical needs
     

Compensation:
 

  • Based on the North West Hendricks School Corporation support staff pay scale
     
  • Position is not benefit-eligible due to hours
