Job description

Baristas are responsible for helping customers throughout their entire visit to OHSU Marquam Cafes. They interact with customers, greet them, inform them of specific menu items, help them find things, and make decisions. Baristas make espresso drinks according to specific recipes and uphold the standards of operating espresso machines, grinders, turbo chef ovens, dishwashers, and other related equipment. Baristas also ring up purchases, instruct customers to condiment areas, answer general questions about our department and provide directions to other places on Marquam Hill. Baristas also stock restaurant items and clean while not ringing in customers. Baristas may also participate in preparing simple recipes and other f ood service worker duties, including serving food and cashiering. Baristas should maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high  volume or unusual events to keep the store operating to standards.

Baristas may be assigned to clean their location, including floors, walls, merchandising shelves, and windows. Tracks daily inventory transfers and completes bi-weekly inventory counts and daily waste logs, records refrigerator and food temperature, and time stamps cream pitchers while in use on counters.All baristas must have a proven ability to provide quality customer service and demonstrate knowledge of coffee, equipment, and tea products. The Barista has the responsibility for serving all products with friendly, individualized attention toward each customer. She/he is also responsible for making a difference to our customers by educating them about all coffee products that are served at the location in which they work. All baristas should be instrumental in building customer relationships and creating a po sitive and friendly environment. Baristas at all locations are expected to support the guiding principles and follow all department and intuitional policies and standards.
