POSITION SUMMARY
The Hourly Adult Basic Education (ABE) Teacher will provide multilevel instruction for levels 2 and 3 in Reading, Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies. They will incorporate technology in class using appropriate instructional websites and software and provide students with opportunities to learn and practice technology skills. The incumbent will aid students in identifying their learning styles, teach using a variety of modalities, and implement lessons aligned with CCRS (College and Career Readiness Standards), incorporating soft skills and life skills based on Georgia Best content and real-life application of skill set.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:

WORK EXPEREINCE:
- 1 (one) year in adult literacy and/or education is preferred.
- Experience working with diverse groups preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Utilize and assign online resources according to support skill proficiency and test preparation (Aztec, Essential Ed suite, ENGEN etc.).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Monitor student progress; monitor GALIS (Georgia Adult Learners Information System) reports and individual data and performance weekly (GALIS Reports - AE095, AE214).
- Create standard-based lesson plans; embed soft skills, life skills, and real-world application skills.
- Implement usage of technology within instruction and asynchronous platforms.
- Provide opportunities for small groups and peer-to-peer engagement and activities.
- Teach using a variety of modalities.
- Teach Adult Education classes that consist of reading, math, science, social studies, and/or language skills based on students' individualized learning needs.
- Teach Adult Education ESL (English as a Second Language) classes that consist of reading, speaking, and writing English language skills based on students' individual learning needs.
- Deliver effective Adult Education instruction using standard based lessons.
- Plan, develop, and implement lessons that require higher-order thinking skills.
- Complete and maintain appropriate attendance and assessment records and ensure timely submission (daily) of data for NRS (National Reporting System) input.
- Evaluate students' ongoing progress and performance in attaining goals and objectives and document in GALIS.
- Communicate with appropriate staff/faculty in a timely manner regarding students' testing needs. Review post-test scores, practice test scores, and GED/HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) test scores.
- Coordinate and provide appropriate student referrals for IET (Integrated Education and Training), wrap-around service, HSE (Higher Secondary Education) credential scholarships, testing, and transition services: collaborate with the leadership team (Program Assistant, Data Manager, Instructional Lead, and Transition Specialist) for extenuating circumstances.
- Monitor SLPs (Speech-Language Pathologist) and asynchronous work.
- Promote the adult education program to public and private organizations throughout the program's service delivery area.
- Participate in the local Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) competition.
- Provide effective classroom management that enhances student learning.
- Utilize technology and online resources to support skill proficiency.
- Demonstrate teamwork, customer service, and organizational commitment.
- Assist with recruitment and retention activities.
- Support the mission and vision of the district, program, and TCSG (Technical College System of Georgia).
- Prepare students to transition to the ABE (Adult Basic Education) level class and GED prep instruction.
- Practice classroom management and time management.
- Provide post-test updates and post-test preparation.
- Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed.

- Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records.
