Job description

Position Summary: The ESE Teacher is responsible for the implementation of high quality, comprehensive and developmentally-appropriate instruction and child care to meet the individual needs of young children and their families.

Areas of Responsibility:                      

Develops and implements Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each student.

  1. Completes a developmental assessment for each student within six weeks of enrollment and annually thereafter. 
  2. Develops an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each student annually.
  3. Participates in the initial IEP staffing and each annual review.
  4. Works with students both individually and in small groups on individual program goals.
  5. Implements physical, occupational, and speech therapy programs within the classroom.
 
Records all necessary information related to classroom management and student progress.
  1. Writes daily lesson plans.
  2. Records data twice a week on each child’s behavior objectives.
  3. Keeps daily data on toileting schedule.
  4. Completes daily attendance record.
  5. Completes monthly progress reports for each student.
  6. Completes quarterly progress reports for each student and sends copy to family.
  7. Communicates regularly with parents/guardians and records on Parent/Agency contact form.
  8. Fills out an incident report if a child is hurt and follows incident reporting procedures.
 
Carries out daily activities in the classroom.
  1. Checks daily that all necessary materials are prepared and ready for scheduled activities.
  2. Works daily with assigned activity group on individual IEP goals and objectives.
  3. Assists and trains assistant teachers in implementing programs.
  4. Carries out toilet training programs.
  5. Assists children in tooth brushing, hand washing and dressing skills.
  6. Demonstrates proper carrying, handling and positioning of children.
  7. Attends scheduled teacher meetings to discuss educational programming.
  8. Completes annual reviews and quarterly incentives for teacher assistants and submits to Preschool Director for review/approval.
 
Provides for the physical order and cleanliness of preschool areas.
  1. Participates in lunch time, clean-up, and classroom upkeep daily.
  2. Follow proper health and safety rules for toileting and changing children.
  3. Keeps dangerous or hazardous items out of the reach of all children.
 
Training/Certification
  1. Attends all Preschool in-service training.
  2. Attends mandatory child care training courses or mandatory workshops on an annual basis.
  3. Complies with state regulations for renewal of or obtaining of Teacher Certification.
 
Supervisory Duties.
  1. Ensures all direct reports are up-to-date on mandatory trainings, screenings, evaluations, etc.
  2. Assists in development of job descriptions for direct reports.
  3. Provides job training for direct reports.
  4. Monitors staff performance; Conducts probationary and annual performance evaluations.
  5. Administers disciplinary action and counseling to direct reports as necessary and in compliance with federal, state and local laws and ASC policies and procedures.
  6. Participates in the grievance process as required.
  7. Monitors attendance manages overtime.
Minimum Education and Work Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university with a valid Florida Professional teaching certificate in Pre-K Primary.
  • May need to complete DCF 45 hour course
  • One (1) year of teaching experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to maintain professional and cooperative relationships with parents, colleagues, and other professionals.
  • Excellent administrative, clerical, and organizational skills.
  • Effective problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking skills.
  • Must pass a Level II background check, a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and PPD.
Typical Physical, Mental and Emotional Demands: The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. 
  • Performs tasks requiring bending, lifting, squatting, and physical exertion of upper and lower body muscles.
  • Performs multiple and/or continuous lifts and/or transfers of 50 pounds in safe and appropriate manner utilizing standard orientation techniques for up to six (6) hours a day.
  • Must be able to see, hear and communicate effectively with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to handle stress of working with non-verbal, non-ambulatory clients who need assistance with most aspects of activities of daily living.
  • Must be able to deal with offensive behavior, inappropriate or offensive remarks from individuals being served and their families in an appropriate manner.
  • Must be able to separate personal issues and work issues and maintain decorum and self-control in dealing with individuals being served, their families and ASC staff. 
Working Conditions: Primary duties are in an office/school environment with moderate noise levels.Â
