Job description

Salary: $55,000-$75,000

Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing outstanding accounting support, ensuring that the accounting function runs smoothly and efficiently for a busy multi-office, multi-entity title company and law firm.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform day to day accounting duties in accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, payroll, post journal entries and general ledger entries
  • Pay invoices, record manual checks, reconcile bank transfers, reconcile operating accounts and title insurance accounts on a weekly basis
  • Monitor escrow accounts, following up on and re-issuing outstanding checks; submit unclaimed money from escrow accounts to state agencies annually
  • Issue Form-1099s for property sales annually; issue fee payments and commissions payments to partners
  • Collaborate with Practice Administrator to review and approve attorney billing, and with Attorneys to obtain on time billing reports
  • Collaborate with Practice Administrator to identify past due clients, and send 5 day withdrawal letters, manage collections processes of legal fees due
  • Generate accurate P&L reports, balance sheets and cash flow analysis; collaborate with Practice Manager to forecast monthly revenue and other ad-hoc financial analysis
  • Collaborate with outside accounting firm on reconciliations (bank, credit cards, escrow, and other)
  • Other duties as assigned

  • 2+ years of progressive accounting experience with direct exposure to accounting operation duties in a title company, law firm, or professional services company desired
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related
  • Experience with standard software solutions preferred, such as QuickBooks Online, Bamboo, Clio or similar practice management software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
