Schedule: 12‑hour shifts (7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m., 11:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m., or 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.)
Compensation: USD 79,000 – 108,000 (base salary)


Job Summary

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ER RN) provides first‑line, high‑acuity care to patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical conditions. This role involves rapid assessment, stabilization, and ongoing management to minimize long‑term complications and sustain life when necessary. The ER RN uses advanced assessment skills, critical thinking, and problem‑solving in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to implement and evaluate individualized care plans in a fast‑paced environment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) and the attributes of Careful Nursing to provide care for an assigned ED patient population.

  • Quickly assess patient needs, determine severity of illness or injury, and prioritize care accordingly.

  • Plan and implement evidence‑based interventions; delegate tasks to ancillary personnel based on patient assessment and scope of practice.

  • Evaluate patient responses to interventions and modify the plan of care as needed.​

  • Demonstrate independent critical thinking and problem‑solving skills in caring for complex, high‑acuity patients.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds; facilitate discharge planning and patient/family education regarding condition, treatment, medications, and self‑care.

  • Coordinate discharge plans with the patient, family/significant others, physicians, and the care team to ensure readiness for transition.​

  • Maintain high quality of care through compliance with regulatory standards, current evidence‑based practice, and participation in quality monitoring and data collection.​

  • Use supplies and resources cost‑effectively; collaborate with leadership on unit supply levels and adjustments.

  • Complete designated unit‑specific competencies and at least 16 hours of continuing education annually in addition to mandatory in‑service requirements.​

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).​

  • Provide care and communication consistent with the organization’s mission, values, and standards of service.


Qualifications
  • Associate degree from an accredited professional nursing program required.

  • BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program preferred.​

  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois required.​

  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; PALS required per listing.

  • 1–3 years of Emergency Department RN experience required.​

  • SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) certification and ability to participate in on‑call rotation required/strongly preferred per posting.

  • Ability to work 12‑hour shifts and various hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
