Equity Private Placement involves raising capital through private offerings to select investors, focusing on deal structuring and negotiations. Equity Analysts analyze publicly traded companies to provide investment recommendations. While both roles require finance knowledge and certifications like CFA, Equity Private Placement emphasizes deal execution in private markets, whereas Equity Analysts focus on market research and valuation of public companies.

What are Equity Private Placements?

Equity private placements are a method by which companies raise capital by selling shares directly to a select group of investors, rather than through a public offering. These investors are typically institutional investors, accredited individuals, or private equity firms. Private placements allow companies to access funding more quickly and with fewer regulatory requirements than public offerings. They are commonly used by startups, growth-stage companies, and sometimes established firms looking for strategic investors. While private placements offer flexibility, they also involve less liquidity and may carry higher risk for investors.

Job description

Wedbush Securities is one of the largest securities firms and investment banks in the nation. We provide innovative financial solutions through our Wealth Management, Capital Markets, Futures and Advanced Clearing & Prime Services divisions. Headquartered in Los Angeles, California with over 100 offices and more than 80 correspondent offices, our commitment to providing relentless, customized service is the foundation of our consistent growth.

At Wedbush Securities, we are building a world-class private capital platform — and we're seeking a Managing Director with the vision, gravitas, and network to lead it. This is more than a role — it's a mandate to shape the private capital landscape for the next decade. You will sit at the apex of high-impact capital formation, working with the most innovative companies and sophisticated investors in the world.

This is your platform. Your brand. Your legacy.

We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Managing Director to lead our Equity Private Placement practice within the Investment Banking Division. This is a rare opportunity to drive significant growth in a high-profile leadership role, leveraging your deep industry expertise, market relationships, and strategic acumen to elevate our private placement platform to the next level.

What You Will Lead:

  • Command the Equity Private Placement franchise — lead strategy, origination, execution, and team building with full autonomy and visibility from the top
  • Drive transformative capital raises for breakthrough companies in high-growth sectors across tech, healthcare, consumer, and fintech
  • Leverage your network of premier venture, growth, crossover, and institutional investors to deliver exceptional outcomes for clients
  • Build and scale a high-performance team of bankers and deal professionals under your leadership, with access to extensive firm resources
  • Be the trusted advisor to C-suite executives, board members, and founders navigating complex capital decisions
  • Lead with influence, representing Wedbush at premier events, family office summits, private capital conferences, and on industry panels
  • Collaborate at the highest level — work directly with the executive team to integrate private placements across our investment banking, equity research, and institutional sales ecosystem

  • 10+ years in equity private placements at a leading investment bank or boutique; extensive deal sheet with marquee transactions
  • Deep, trusted relationships with the private capital ecosystem — venture, growth equity, crossover, family offices, and strategic investors
  • Track record of closing complex capital raises, often with multi-party syndicates
  • Strategic mindset with a strong commercial instinct and a bias for execution
  • FINRA Series 79 license required
  • MBA, CFA, CPA or equivalent advanced credential preferred
  • Passion for innovation, market disruption, and entrepreneurial leadership
