Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate, student-centered English I Teacher to join our Freshman Academy team. The ideal educator will bring strong ELA and Louisiana Guidebook content knowledge, a commitment to equitable instruction, and the ability to integrate technology meaningfully into daily learning. This teacher will play a key role in building literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills-setting the tone for students' academic journey through high school.

ย Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality, standards-aligned English I instruction based on Louisiana ELA standards.

  • Use formative and summative assessment data to drive instruction, interventions, and enrichment.

  • Create engaging, technology-enhanced lessons aligned with our status as a Verizon Innovative Learning School.

  • Establish a positive, culturally responsive classroom environment focused on growth, respect, and accountability.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Freshman Academy to align curriculum, pacing, and instructional practices.

  • Build strong, professional relationships with students, families, and the greater school community.

ย Additional Expectations
  • All staff are required to sponsor one club or Enrichment during school hours as part of their role.

  • Teachers at HMMA are expected to grow continually in their use of instructional technology to support digital equity and meaningful engagement.

  • Participate in school events, data meetings, PLCs, and professional learning aligned to the Freshman Academy vision.

ย Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field (required)

  • Valid Louisiana teaching certificate in Secondary English, or eligibility to obtain one

  • Prior high school English teaching experience preferred

  • Strong instructional skills and effective classroom management

  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and equitable academic outcomes

  • Ability to integrate technology to enhance instruction and student engagement
