Position Summary
Operates equipment to include a rubber tire loader, track loader, track dozer, skid loader, excavator, dredge and other various types of sand and gravel pit equipment.  Provides support maintenance/mechanical/welding/fabricating facility work. Abides by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely. Consistent and reliable attendance is required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Operates plant and mobile equipment to support production and sales functions at plant site. 

Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, moves levers, turns steering wheel, etc. to operate equipment. 

Maintains plant site, equipment and shop according to safety standards, including all aspects of good housekeeping. 

Checks brakes, tires, springs, engine oil, etc. on a daily basis.  Completes required inspection sheets. Grease, change oil, change tires and perform other maintenance as required. 

Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:   

  • High School Diploma or GED; and
  • previous heavy equipment operating experience; or
  • equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:   

  • Valid Driver's License and be insurable under the company insurance program.
  • Must be capable of becoming certified on heavy equipment.

Other Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule during busy season.
  • Must be able to work late or irregular hours.
  • Proven mechanical troubleshooting skills preferred. 
  • Must be able to work with various hand tools of the trade. 
  • Must also be mechanically and physically inclined to provide support mechanical skills to the operation.
  • Must have good manual dexterity and good motor coordination skills. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to operate with minimal supervision, be a trouble shooter and take initiative to anticipate, investigate and resolve problems.
  • Ability to follow directions and instructions and operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to utilize problem solving skills.
  • Must demonstrate willingness to perform other support duties during non busy times.

Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements. Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with fit for employment screening (if required) are conditions of employment.
