Gillman Home Center is hiring a full-time Rental Equipment Manager in Shelbyville, IN. This position is ideal for mechanically skilled professionals with experience in equipment rental, customer service, inventory management, or equipment maintenance.

Earn $20 to $24 Per Hour

High School Diploma or GED

Mechanical expertise is a must for this position.

(Example: Experience working on lawn mowers, or similar equipment)

Position Overview

The Rental Equipment Manager oversees the daily operations of the rental department, including rental contracts, equipment tracking, inspections, maintenance coordination, customer service, and equipment deliveries. This is a hands-on role requiring both technical and operational expertise in a fast-paced retail and equipment rental environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesRental Operations & Customer Service
  • Provide exceptional customer service throughout the rental process
  • Assist customers with rental equipment selection and project solutions
  • Open, manage, and close rental contracts and reservations
  • Process rental transactions using the point-of-sale system
  • Inspect equipment with customers before and after rentals
  • Assess equipment condition, fuel levels, missing parts, and cleanliness
  • Apply fees for damages, missing items, cleaning, or fuel when necessary
Equipment Management & Maintenance
  • Monitor and track rental equipment daily
  • Maintain accurate rental inventory records and reports
  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and basic repairs on rental equipment
  • Coordinate outsourced repairs when necessary
  • Maintain an updated “Rental Down” list and repair plan
  • Ensure equipment is repaired and returned to service quickly
  • Maintain tools and notify management of repair or replacement needs
Deliveries & Equipment Transport
  • Deliver and pick up rental equipment as needed
  • Operate company vehicles safely and professionally
  • Ensure all equipment registrations, license plates, and insurance records remain current
Store Operations & Safety
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe rental department
  • Assist with store opening and closing procedures
  • Support general store maintenance, including cleaning, snow removal, trash removal, and parking lot upkeep
  • Help customers throughout the store as needed
  • Follow all company safety standards and operational procedures
  • Identify and report safety concerns immediately

QualificationsRequired
  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Mechanical expertise is a must for this position.
  • Valid drivers license; For-Hire Endorsement not required but preferred.

Schedule
  • Full-time position
  • Approximately 45 hours per week
  • Must be available for days, evenings, and weekends

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to operate trucks and equipment for deliveries and pickups
