HiFyve is hiring a Heavy Equipment Shop Technician in Gastonia, NC!


Salary: $32-$35/hour

Shift: Full-time, Day Shift

Location: Gastonia, NC

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Shop Technician to diagnose, repair, rebuild, and service construction equipment in a shop environment. This role is central to supporting operations by performing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs, conducting preventive maintenance, and ensuring equipment is restored to safe, reliable working condition. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and taking ownership of high-quality repair results.


Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, install, and test components and systems on heavy construction equipment
  • Use diagnostic tools, service manuals, laptops, and test equipment to determine mechanical and electrical failures
  • Disassemble and reassemble major components using proper tools, cranes, hoists, and equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, belts, hoses, coolant, and fuel system service
  • Weld and fabricate as needed, including frame repairs, wear strips, and surface grinding
  • Clean equipment using power washers and prepare parts for painting as needed
  • Operate forklifts, hoists, and lifting devices safely when moving large components
  • Reprogram equipment controllers using diagnostic instrumentation
  • Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, parts usage, and service notes
  • Uphold safety standards and maintain a clean, organized work area
  • Support additional shop duties and projects as needed


Requirements

  • High school diploma, technical certificate, or equivalent required
  • 3–5 years of heavy equipment repair experience in a shop environment
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and perform repetitive bending, climbing, kneeling, and standing
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills
  • Must be able to work safely around heavy machinery, tools, and moving equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
